Kakko offersheet Doing Florida a favour

Description
I have been reading some threads about Florida moving Bobrovsky. He could be moved, and I think it's realistic for Florida to take up to 3 mil in retention - still cheaper than buying him out. He would have to agree to waive.
For Sabres it's not that bad, getting bridge 1a goalie, his deal was front loaded, so he will cost less than cap hit, and if cap space would become an issue, he could be bought out from last 2 years of the deal.

On top of that Sabres take Hornquist deal to flip him to Washington, which replace Hagelin with Hornquist for 3rd pick.
Gudas is something Panthers add, since Buffalo is doing them a favour, and could really use his physicality.

Panthers clears 14 mil, they have money for Giroux, they have money for replacing Bobrovsky. They will have money to sign vets wanting to join President trophy winning team.

Rangers cant really afford to match Kakko offersheet, they cannot retaliate in the nearest future, and I would love to stick to them. Getting 2OA, who is still 21 for 2nd round pick - seems like a great deal. 2 year deal gives both sides some time to figure things out with a pressure.

I really don't know how the lines would be setup with a lot of same level winger, who are either rookies or could have breakout year.

For taking on both Hornqvist and Bob, you only want Gudas? I mean, I would think that just for Bob alone the starting to dump, since Florida has no high picks, would be Lundell.

Absolutely not
In no way should we consider taking that Bobrovsky contract,
even if we get him at $7mil per

The last thing we should do- is a favor for the team we’re trying to catch

Now if they wanna trade us Knight,
that’s another story

Pass on Kakko as well

Yes, I am looking at it as Gudas for taking Hornquist, and then getting 1A goalie, that Sabres need. But Florida is retaining so that Bobrovsky, who is still proven goalie has cap hit of 7, rather than 10. It's him, or taking shot at Husso/Campbell for probably same cap hit.
I think, the retention is the ground for negotiation. I even took a look at potential buyout in 2 years.

I thought if Florida would want to trade full Bobrovsky deal, they would have to do it with Lundell or 2025 1st, since they have none sooner. But then, I don't think it would be something that Sabres be interested in.

So the deal would look like Bobrovsky + Hornquist + Gudas + Lundell for 5th rounder. Then you don't offer sheet Kakko, Hmm, maybe that is the way.

Sabres have easily that 7 mil cap space for goalie. I am thinking out loud, why not Bobrovsky ?
They are not trading Knight, I think they may make his 1A goalie and sign Holtby or other vet to back him up. They will become destination for vets.

I would still give Kakko a shot. He lost some development during covid's lockdown, NYC could tough place to live being 18 yrs from Europe and Rangers are clearly doing something wrong, Laf also looks bad at times.
4,2 mil is only for Rangers not matching, and this as high as you can go with 2nd compensation. I would not give 1st.

No on Bobrovsky
Florida is a team we are trying to catch
Let them be weighed down by that contract
Terrible idea to trade for him

And Kakko is a 3rd liner who doesn’t score much
I guess it’s not much of a gamble
But i doubt he’d sign here, & i doubt NYR let’s him walk

buffalo isn't gonna be good for a while... and bobrovsky is good, so I don't understand why you think this is hurting your chances of "catching" us

I can see maybe 3 teams doing that Bobrovsky deal - Sabres, Red Wings and Devils. If Sabres and Red Wings don't want to help division rivals, only Devils are the long shot for him.

No way Chicago, Arizona are doing that. Rest of the teams with significant cap space, have no need for expensive goalie.

The Rangers are one of, if not the worst team in the league at developing forwards. As of right now, they only have 4 forwards that were drafted by the Rangers on their roster, with those being Kreider, Chytil, Kakko, and Lafreniere. They can develop defensemen and goalies like no one, see Lundqvist, Shesterkin, and some of their young dmen. But forwards, they are hopeless.

The way I see it, either use Lundell and 2025 1st as a start for dumping Bob or lose Huberdeau and other pieces. The only reason I ruled out Knight would be because if the Cats do end up dumping Bob, Knight likely becomes the starter, with someone else being brought in to backup.

Lol on the 180, TMZ, non watching, sad hot take. Doesn't matter anyway, offersheets won't happen. The giant boy is off the charts as a defensive gem compared to the other picks, his points & game are developing like Kreider. No flash, sorry you don't like him lol.

That's the lazy answer. Like all teams, we average 7pix/yr and 1pans out/yr. Not good. We strike gold with Gs & Ds. Our Fs we're mostly hail Mary euros or cheesy Fs. Lotto wins were actually curses, consensus picks were Ws.
Also developed others like Zucc Buch Zib Strome Fast Stepan...

Yep, makes sense to me

Btw, hope u guys finish off the Rangers tomorrow
Their fans got pretty obnoxious on here when we were trying to trade Eichel & they’d offer us crap like:
Chytil, Strome, Georgiev & a 1st
It was so laughable
And frankly, I’m glad they decided to not make their (just about ready to call them…) busts available
Would be sucked to get Lafreniere & Kakko instead of Tuch & Krebs

Anyways, it’s weird that I’m cheering for u guys (‘05 ECF still hurts a bit), but F the Rags 🤣🤣🤣

Whats your definition of good. The Sabres were better last year and good from march on. If the miss the playoffs by a handful of points theyd still be good. They arent going to regress and be a bottom feeder

Getting a different goalie doesn’t make us worse than if we had Bobrovsky
Especially with him taking up $10mil per for the next 4 years

That contract is an anchor for whoever has it
Not to mention, he’s gonna be 34 & his play could drop off at any time now

It was a terrible idea for FLA to sign him to that deal in the first place- and it would be a terrible idea for anyone to acquire him

But the Sabres aren't paying him 10 mill, they're paying 7 here.

They're nowhere near cap strapped - signing him to 4x7 would be a bad signing, but they're getting paid to receive a very good goalie.

When they could potentially be cap strapped - 2 years from now if every one of their players has absolutely perfect development over the next 2 years - they would just be limited in who they could sign as UFAs. They wouldn't lose anybody from their core.

All this, not to mention they can buy Bob out to reduce his cap hit to 4 for the last 2 years of current deal and ~1.5 for 2 additional years. Added bonus for you is Florida would also have to add part of his buyout to their books

Only way it’s worth considering is if they really make it worth our while
And the above trade proposal does not do that it all
It flat out sucks

We take over $12mil in Cap dump off their hands,
and for that…. We get ONE year of Gudas
It’s a pretty terrible idea

Now if they were to include Lundell, it gets interesting
If they were to include another good piece, it then becomes worth it imo

Who cares that they're taking 12 mill? You're getting a 2nd (Gudas' value), a 3rd (retained, Hornqvist is easily worth that), and a very good starting goalie. Your team gets dramatically better with Bob, and Gudas brings what this team is SORELY lacking. I don't get why fans here care about spending cash... there is almost no chance that this deal inhibits them cap wise whatsoever for the next 4 years. They're not in a place to spend big money on UFAs with all the young players they have
