Anyone saying Tkachuk traded for depth players is "realistic" is trolling

With all due respect, Konecny and Sanheim are not depth players. They are solid players. It's an unsigned RFA, not sure why there would be much more in that deal but okay!

Lol you say that like he wont sign long term with anyone. Konecny is a 2nd line winger at best, 3rd line on your above team and Sanheim is 1 year from UFA and you have him on the 3rd pair. Philly adds this years 1st at least and its still probably a crappy return

CGY fans will want the moon for Tkachuk and I don't blame them.

However, I think its important to remember that you cant agree an extension first and its a trade of RFA rights.

You'll never trade a tkachuk for tkachuk or a marner for a marner, but you can address other (multiple) problems/areas.

I think something like a Koneckny, Sanheim AND a 2nd or 3rd for Tkachuk's rights alone is probably not far off. (TK put up 50pts without a 1C all season, and a 2C, 2LW, 3LW and Giroux all out for 20 or more games, on a malfunctioning/poorly coached team, which I think is pretty good production, so I think its wrong to not see him as a top 6 winger.) Sanheim, while a pending UFA, is coming off a career year and CGY is still close now, and his salary/resign wouldnt upset balance of team moving forward. So I dont think the offer above is out of whack. (But I'd keep Dube and not make the Boyd acquisition, still leaving 2-3mil for an upgrade somewhere)

Yesterday I put a Couturier/Sanheim/prospect Desnoyes and pick offer for Tkachuk.

Tkachuk ever said what he wants in a extension or if he wants to go south, after a playoff outing like this I’m sure left him with some fire and unfinished business. 90s jets fan here and witnessing a 22 year old Walt tkachuk, damn did I want jets 2.0 to find a way up to grab at least one of them or both ala sedin brothers.

Probably reaching, but would you take Provorov instead of Sanhiem?

Sanhiem probably moves to top pair in Philly this year, definitely not a 3rd pair D, TK most likely moves up to the first line on the Flames… not a 3rd liner on any team in the league…

Sanheim is a top 4 defenseman on most teams, I'm not arguing that. He's not a top pair defenseman though. He would maybe be 2nd pair in Calgary over Kylington but that still puts too much cap into the 3rd pair regardless of who plays there.

TK is a middle 6 winger, Mangiapane or Toffoli would be 1st line over him pretty easily if Tkachuk is moved. Regardless this still doesn't change the fact that even if you remove Dube the trade is extremely lopsided towards Philly

Those are some good lines, I think TK probably could also make sense on line 1, brings a bit of that same style they would lose from Tkachuk and overall is the best winger not named Johnny… or at least he is when he isn’t being coached by AV lol
