Leafs Fall 2022

Créé par: KingExLeafs
Équipe: 2022-23 Maple Leafs de Toronto

Description
I think giving Tavares better linemates will elevate his play. He has no chemistry with Nylander so if Nylander stays then he has to be moved to the 1st line. He is wasted on the third line.

And I think signing a top six power forward is a necessity for this team. Kane fits the bill. If the oilers don't resign him then the Leafs should pounce.

this "nylander and tavares have no chemistry" stuff is just hilarious. They had chemistry last year, they had chemistry to start the season, the had chemistry in the playoffs but tavares goes through a shooting percentage drought and suddenly everyone is talking about how they dont have chemistry.
It's just simply not true.

That line got outscored. Defensively they are not good. And Tavares just plays better with Marner. At this stage in their careers Tavares needs Marner on his wing more than Matthews does.

playing better with marner doesnt mean that tavares and nylander dont have chemistry. Playing with a 100 point winger instead of an 80 point one makes anyone look better, If you want them together than simply put nylander with Matthews. they have also had excellent results together in the past. Much better than bringing in a 31 year old textbook example of a locker room cancer for long term

Don't think we need Kane but I agree that Matthews and Marner need to be split up. They can both elevate other players which come playoff time is just more important, spreads out the coverage and matchups , etc. Will probably make for less flashy regular season stats for those two but better for the team.

and as far as that line got out scored, well they only got outscored when they had anyone but kerfoot on their line. which was like 11% of their ice time together.

It doesn’t have to be Kane. The Leafs need a goal scoring power forward on that 1st line. As the playoffs proved, Bunting is miscast there. You need extra size to be effective in the playoffs, someone like Hyman was perfect.

Zach Hyman is like an inch taller than bunting and has been injured with a frequency you could set your watch to in recent years. He was also absolutely brutal against montreal. Currently Hyman (and Kane) have a special trick called playing with McDavid and Draisaitl.

Everyone was bad in that Montreal series except for Kerfoot and Nylander.

And Hyman is more rugged than Bunting, he doesn't get pushed off as easily. I'm not saying the Leafs should've kept him, but they need a similar player to play alongside Matthews. Bunting has been good, but the Leafs are doing themselves a disservice by not pairing Matthews with elite talent on both sides.

Bunting does a lot of things better than Hyman though too, he's a much better passer and puck handler, but either way neither are 'elite' talent, so if that's what you think the leafs need Hyman or a guy like him isnt the dude you want.
As much as i'd like to get another high end forward, the top 6 scoring wasnt an issue at all, it was guys like Mikheyev and the rest of the bottom 6 not contributing after much game 2. The top 6 outscored tampa's by like 5 goals or something, but their bottom 6 got outscored by tampas by about the same.
