Description
Panthers have no picks to trade, how do they fix their team to be able to compete in the postseason? Get rid of most of Bob's contract while he's still moderately tradeable which gives them money to fix their issues and covers Huberdeau extension

What does the return look like? I literally have no idea

P.S. Yes, I know there's like a .0005% chance of Bob waiving for Buffalo. And I know the Sabres fans on here will hate the idea. But please humor me :)
Transactions
FLA
Literally no idea what the return would look like, but Buffalo gets a good stop gap goalie, Gudas as a body guard for Power, and Hornqvist retained and flipped gets them a pick for bailing Florida out of most of the atrocious Bob contract

    1. Bobrovsky, Sergei (4 000 000 $ retained)
    2. Gudas, Radko
    3. Hörnqvist, Patric

Sabres can here, love the idea of taking on Bob for assets. But with no 1st until 2025 that becomes a difficult trade to make

I don't hate the idea, I know there's 0% chance he waives for Buffalo lol

Yeah way I see it is he's an asset himself, but not to Florida LOL. So Sabres get Bob basically for free, and Gudas (2nd-3rd round value), and Hornqvist (maybe a 2nd with 50% retained? At least a 3rd). Hornqvist likewise is still a pretty good player, just a brutal cap hit at this stage. Idk if I need much more for the Sabres.

Long-winded way of saying they're not getting traditional assets for a cap dump... but it's almost enough for a reliable goalie

Yeah lol. But imagine if he did. Would you need them to sweeten the pot? Or think they would need something coming back?

I would take a pick with it, 10 mill over 5 years does start to negatively affect them towards the end

Give Buffalo a pick and I think you’d have something. Maybe the 24 3rd?

I doubt Bob waives for Buffalo, but if it was a 3team trade where Florida gets some scrub AHLer or prospect from the 3rd team in return and then Buffalo retains 3 million more on Bob to a contender they could probably get a 2nd or 3rd for him this year. Also probably do the same for Hornqvist cause I doubt Hornqvist would want to play for Buffalo, but with 50% retained by Buffalo they could probably get a 3rd. Gudas probably gets a 2nd or 3rd. To sum it up, at the very least they’d be getting three 3rds just to retain about 5 million cap. Which isn’t bad.

Buffalo isn’t really in a position to take on Bobrovsky even if he were willing to come. The veteran stopgap goaltender they bring in can’t really have more than a three-year deal. The expectation is that Levi, Portillo, or both will be challenging for a roster spot within three years.

They buy him out if he's underperformed after 2 years. 4 mill cap hit in year 3 of this deal then only 1 for a couple years. It's not perfect, but I think this would be pretty damn good for the Sabres

I'm not sure i would even do it for the full 10 mill contract, but the trade here has 4 mill retained by Florida

I think getting Bob would be a big part of the deal for Buffalo in this little fairytale I've concocted lol. But that wouldn't be awful either, although I'm not sure Sabres want to retain for 4 years

Probably not, but they have cap space to spare. They don’t have any major contracts to hand out until possibly 2-3 years down the line when Dahlin and Power comes up. But by that time they would get rid of Okposo, Hornqvist, Gudas contracts in this scenario.

I honestly disagree, a 4 year deal is one more year than a 3 year deal after all. Best case scenario both young goalies are NHL ready by year 3 and we deal Bob elsewhere. I'd rather have a goalie than just hoping to have one in 3 years

This is the only post I've made with this, and I had fun doing it. Youre probably thinking about how a bunch of people, from both fan bases, have used it in their posts since. Go back to having a mental breakdown over cap space the Sabres could never possibly spend, while the rest of us have fun.
