I have doubts about the Leafs interest in Bertuzzi. Doesn't make much sense to take that gamble with Covid ever sitting quietly in the background.

Knies isn’t an “untouchable” prospect. He isn’t even close to a blue chip prospect.

That doesn’t make him untouchable but rather Dubas didn’t like some unknown trade offer. Who also reported X were calling for Knies? Seems similar to the Robertson overhype we’ve been hearing about for a bit.

Dreger reported that deal was Hagel + Flower for Mrazek, Knies, and first round picks (plural). Nothing about specifically Knies being the reason it was shot down and that’s only one team when you said multiple teams were calling.

Friedman reported the same Chicago trade report. That’s one team. Sure teams would want Toronto’s top prospects or futures when discussing a top 6 forward/top4 d/etc. Dubas isn’t going to trade his top prospects for bottom pairing role guys.

Detroit heavily declines on the Bertuzzi deal, Knies and the 1st and 2nd are the only good pieces in the whole deal. You can keep Mrazek and Envall they do nothing for us.

Knies will need someone young that will move the needle, Bertuzzi is a rental and will sign him for free when he is a UFA

Why would Bertuzzi sign in Toronto vs the other teams in FA? He’s already publicly said he and his significant other love Detroit. Sure, he could test FA but there would be no guarantee he’d sign with Toronto. It’s the equivalent of me saying Detroit will just throw money at Matthews in 2 years.
