You really need to wait for the draft to happen. Adams will likely get a better RHD or two in the first and early second. I don't see any positive in loosing all those assets for rental D when its already coming from picks.

Pretty sure Walker and Murphy both have term so not really rentals. "Better" is relative here. 9th will almost certainly be a centre. The odds of 16th or 28th being as good as walker or Murphy even are surprisingly low (or much lower than you'd think). Im not even sure any of the RHD after Jiricek and Nemec will be as good as Helge Grans.

These deals only really cost the Sabres the worst of their 1sts, and olofsson as far as long term assets go (RJ has one foot out the door). Id say its about market value for 2 RHD in their 20s and one with serious upside.

In the LA trade,
take out Olofsson going to us & the 2nd going to them

In the CHI trade,
the 1st is more than enough or Bryson + a pick that’s not a 1st

No need to overpay

But at the end of the day,
It’s overpaying for modest upgrades

I mean until we see a shift in the market this is about what market rate will look like for right shot d-men who arent terrible

Then go with Jokiharju as RD2
It makes no sense to overpay like that for a modest upgrade

Jokiharju wasnt very good. Hasn't been in some time. Not sure thats a viable option long term

If Power ends up being what we think he will be,
Jokiharju should be “fine” as his partner
While he did have his ups n downs, we really just need a little more consistency out of him. Bc most of his play is at a decent level

Grans already has a year of North American professional hockey under his belt, in which he scored at the rate of almost a point a game, while Johnson is still in college and there are noises that he might not sign with Buffalo. Walker is worth more than a third.

Buffalo does this in a heartbeat. This is literally FLA's 32nd overall pick in one of the most shallow drafts of the last decade. Murphy is a coveted top 4 RHD in his prime on a very affordable contract with term and he would be going to a team that is primed to break out very soon as a viable cup contender. Quite the opposite of a rental.
