If Bergeron and Krejci Sign for Minimum plus Bonuses

Description
Bergeron and Krejci both qualify for a 35+ contract with performance bonuses. If they each sign for the minimum base, it opens up a lot of cap space. However, the B's are not in such great cap shape that they can turn around and give a huge deal to a UFA (especially in a weak market) nor do they have the young assets to pull off a trade for a big-time player. So why not use the space to add some good pieces at a discount by using that cap flexibility, maintain a healthy amount of cap space to cover the bonus overage and potentially use at the deadline, and then circle back on the No. 1 center question next year in a better UFA market?

The Bruins have shown interest in OEL before and if DeBrusk sticks to his trade demand then Garland is a suitable replacement. The Canucks are eager to shed cap and do so in a big way with this trade, hence the first rounder. OEL's contract is a beast, but he's still a good player and I would take him if the Canucks will pay up to move him.

Ship out Reilly and Foligno for further cap purposes and you have a better starting lineup than last year, defensive depth (which is always an issue and Grz will be out to start the year), replenished top picks, and cap space. Maybe bringing a couple Canucks over even helps to woo Horvat or Miller next summer when Bergeron retires, Haula and Smith leave, and the cap goes up.

As much as I'd love Krejci to come back, I don't think he does. Bergeron might take a discount but he's not signing league min with incentive money. VAN might pay to move OEL but he has a NMC. Foligno will most likely be bought out.

Let's imagine Bergeron and Krejci sign those heavy bonuses contracts. If the some or all the bonuses are met.....they still have to accounted in the cap in 22/23 and or 23/24, where it might force a "cap reduction" for the Bruins.

By the way 3.8, Foligno remains a Bruin.

Canucks decline easily. OEL with that much retention, Garland, and 15 OA are the 3 most valuable pieces in that trade

Incentive money can be practically guaranteed money. It can be, “play 10 games, get a $5M bonus.”

I think krejci is jsut as likely as Bergeron.

Let’s just back up a second here - there has never been any evidence that the bruins have ever had any interest at all in OEL. The only thing that has ever linked OEL to Boston was OEL saying he wanted to go to Boston.

2 years ago they did but they didn’t like Arizona’s asking price

Again, that doesn’t indicate that the bruins ever wanted the guy. The headline might, but none of the reporting does.

OEL had a full NMC, said he would only go to boston or vancouver. Arizona seemingly told boston what they would want, and boston just said no.

Not sure how any of that indicates that the bruins showed interest.

I apologize for this. Idk what @bruinsdude77 is doing trying to modify our CF certified deal. We'll address this internally.

I don't know that I've ever seen an incentive-laced deal quite that extreme. I think if Krejci is just as likely as Bergeron that means they both don't come back. Hope that's not the case.

You’re a bruins fan…remember jarome iginla? Zdeno chara? They signed those kinds of deals.

Don’t understand you’re logic here. If krejci is as likely as bergeron, how does that affect the probability of either coming back?

Neither made league minimum or $5M for playing 10 games. All I was saying.
Logic: Krejci has a low probability to return IMO. If Bergeron is as likely as Krejci to return, then Bergeron also has a low probability to return. One doesn't influence the other.

No, but iginla made what, 1.8 with 4.2 in bonuses? They were tied to a super easy to attain games played bonus.

As for Krejci, what i was saying was that i think he has a higher likelihood to return than some may think. I don’t see how thats attached to bergerons likelihood of returning.

Doesn't the P. Bonus money count against the cap the next season, though? I don't see the benefit of it.
You said Krejci was just as likely as Bergeron to return, which I don't think it's the case.
Either way, I think we see eye-to-eye hoping they both return.

Yes it would count the following year, but at that point, who cares? It doesn’t seem like bergeron would come back for more than one year. When he’s done, a re-tool begins.
