The 1st needs to be in 22 or 23 and Carlo would need to be included to generate any interest from Winnipeg.

Ah, yes the daily "Foligno to CBJ" trade. You will have to pay some one to take Nick's contract and CBJ won't be taking any cap dumps unless they are LTRI-retired or AHL level player cap dumps. They already have too many forwards who need NHL play time.

I think the 2024 1st will likely be top 5, the next 2 years will be low cuz BOS is contending with that roster.

I mean, it’s only for 1 year.

What about analytics tells you signing a 34 year old for five years is a good idea?

Unfortunately, there is probably no chance Winnipeg waits 3 drafts for a first, making it a total of about 5 or 6 years before the they see that player. So, Winnipeg likely looks elsewhere.

I mean it’s only a 2 year contending window anyway, it won’t matter after 2023-24.

Doesn't change that they have 16 NHL ready forwards and another half dozen in the minors ready for 4th line duties. They aren't putting another one on the backburner for Foligno and he wants to chase a cup anyway.

You don’t think Scheifele is an elite C?

Elite? no, but I also think elite is reserved for roughly the top 10% of players at their position so in this case you're talking about 12-15 centers. I honestly just don't see the appeal to Scheifele. Sure he plays at a P/GP rate, but his FO% is below average and even his relative metrics aren't great. Over the last 3yrs at 5v5 with WPG forward with at least 500 minutes Scheifele come in at:

FF% Rel: 0.08
SF% Rel: 0.07
GF% Rel: -1.31
SCF% Rel: -0.65
HDCF% Rel: -0.19

He started 61% of his zone starts in the offensive zone so I'd expect these numbers to be higher. Add to that rumors around his role in a toxic WPG dressing room and its a just a big red flag to me. Again I have to wonder why WPG would consider moving a P/GP 29yr old Center whose signed to a pretty good deal for two more years.

Thanks for the insight. Yeah it felt like a couple seasons ago he was being touted as a top 10-15 Center for sure and now it’s no longer that. I have to think that in a new environment under a solid coach like Cassidy & a linemate like Marchand he’ll take his game to another level?

Maybe? Seems like in WPG he's in a leadership role along with Wheeler (whose also rumored to be part of the problem). Maybe on a team where he's not in a leadership role and just another guy, maybe its different. Maybe it knocks him down a few pegs and humbles him, idk. Personally I just would stay away from him for what it'll cost to acquire him.

That’s fair? But who would you try to get to replace Krejci & Bergeron? Maybe Kadri?

Equal no to Kadri. He'll be 32yrs old at the start of next season and coming off a monster season where his production is 85% higher than his previous 5yr average. He's going to want to be paid big money and I don't think he'll come close to putting up a similar P/GP like he did this past year. Honestly you'll never truly replace Bergeron with everything he does, which is why his jersey will hang from the rafters when he calls it quits. Krejci I think is hard to replace too. He never got the most talented guys on the team to play with, but still played at a 60+ pt pace his final 3 years in the NHL.

I look at a guy like Trocheck as a 2C as he's capable of 50+ points, good in the dot and can play all-situations. A true 1C is typically drafted and developed, rarely acquired via FA. If Bergeron retired, I'd probably try and find a couple of 2C's and pray to the hockey gods you have a center your draft that develops into a 1C.
