-McDavid is never actually going to be traded, this is hypothetical.
-Edmonton loses out again in the playoffs, and either McDavid wants out, or they want to move him before his NMC kicks in.
-They send out a memo to the entire league, McDavid is available. The cost is that Edmonton can choose any 3 assets on your team. (Players, picks, prospects)
-Nothing can be off the table. But we will assume players with full NMC or full NTCs won't waive for Edmonton. For example, that rules out a player like Mark Stone from Vegas, but it wouldn't rule out William Karlsson since he only has a M-NTC. (We will assume anyone with a M-NTC doesn't have Edmonton, even know that is a stretch).
-The team that acquires McDavid has to take Barrie and Kassian as cap dumps, non-negotiable.

For example, from Toronto, Edmonton could potentially choose Matthews, Marner, and Nylander. Toronto probably says no, right?

What about a team like Ottawa, who are preparing for a sale and struggling at the gate. You have to imagine that despite the on ice implications, they would easily give up a package like Tkachuk, Chabot, and Stutzle for McDavid. Although, McDavid might not be happy to go to Ottawa.

Does the marketing potential of acquiring McDavid justify tearing down an entire hockey team? Is he good enough on the ice that a team could be rebuilt around him in 4 years after losing their 3 best assets?

Which teams would do this? Which teams would not? Obviously this is purely hypothetical. I don't think he will ever be traded.

The thread isn't specifically about Toronto. There isn't a way for me to make a trade proposal with 31 variables.

The question is, would your team let Edmonton choose any 3 assets without NMCs from their organization for McDavid, with Barrie and Kassian also attached to him. The assets could be any combo of players, picks, or prospects.

I'm a caps fan, and the top 6 assets without a NMC would probably be Carlson, Kuznetsov, Wilson, McMichael, Lapierre, and Orlov/Mantha.
I would definitely be okay with losing three of them if it meant McDavid to Washington...

Also...If this were to somehow happen, Edmonton should definitely take McMichael just for the memes lol.
