Sabres decline

If Wheeler only had one year left on his deal I could see the Sabres taking him...
I tend to agree that two years at $8,250,000 AVV is a bit much.
On the other hand over the past three seasons he has 54 goals and 171 pts in 186 games.
Put him either the top line with Thompson and Skinner (117 assists over 186 games is 52 per 82 games) to improve their goal scoring.
In addition to his scoring prowess, he is 6' 5" 225 lbs., taller and larger than Alex Tuch.
If he continued producing at that level or even tailed off a little, I could see him returning a first and a second in the 2024 TDL, while adding offence to the team and adding cap until he is traded.
I suppose if Management believed Quinn was absolutely ready then we could pass.
