Description

Weber trade apparently already a done deal - just didn't have the paperwork ready by TDL. Throwing in Drouin to allow Coyotes to get a roster player with potential / experience.

Hoffman/Debrusk trade with 1rd. Draft Pick (CAR) - can throw in Yotes 2nd., for good measure.

Petry trade was reportedly in the works. 50% retained and can throw in Norlinder if needed to sweeten the pot.

Armia buyout is cheap even though it is for 6 years but doesn't handicap the Habs cap wise to sign youngsters to bridge or long term contracts. First year of buyout is negative so it helps with Petry's salary retention.

AHL Team - to introduce a whole lot of youth.

That Petry trade is a joke. Habs won't have to pay to move him, take salary back for sure, retain a bit of money maybe but actually give a team a top 50 pick and do both those things, will not happen

You're retaining over 9M on Petry, yet you haven't replaced him in the lineup. If you've listened to Hughes, you know he fully intends on signing a veteran stop gap option to replace Petry if he is moved in order to insulate the younger d-men. If you're looking at a veteran, you'd have to assume that the contract would be in the 3M range, meaning you haven't saved any money in the Petry deal. In fact, you've downgraded the position and lost a potentially valuable asset without any remarkable return. Throw in that 2nd and that's now two assets for a limited prospect and an expiring contract. That's just not going to cut it.

Also, I don't know if it was an error, but Sami Niku is not getting 5M for 2 years. He's hasn't even proven yet that he's a regular bottom pairing defenseman.
