That will never happen. If it was 2023 this would of course make sense. No team in the league is giving an under 23 year old established top line player for futures in this draft.

But a team in the league is clearly giving a guy that had never hit 50pts as the key part of a trade to go from back of the 1st to the 2OA...

Anderson is overpaid for what he brings. He isn't an interesting part for the Devils.

We get to have an aging wash up making over 6mil into his late 30s AND a sex pest??? And all it costs is the 7th overall pick?

That's cool. We'll see if you're right. I don't think GMs around the league feel the way you do about Anderson.

I dunno what the Sens need. The team looks pretty complete to be honest, seems like they need a little bit of experience and skill. I honestly don't know why the GM said he wants to trade the 7OA... but he did.

I honestly haven’t seen that report. Was it last night’s 32 Thoughts..?

I’m pretty well aware that Caufield and Suzuki won’t be moved for the pick though. That’s just all that should interest NJ. Josh Anderson is not a great hockey player, with a terrible contract, and Kaiden Guhle doesn’t really interest me as a prospect. The Devils have enough B grade defenders in the system.

Essentially the return for 2OA is going to be a bad power forward, a mid prospect, and two likely B grade prospects in a weak draft class.

Just keep the pick, or give up Cole Caufield/Nick Suzuki instead, because this is a bad trade.

Montreal fans have to understand, beyond anything else, no one...NO ONE wants to touch Mailloux with a 40ft pole.

Anderson and Petry are on bad contracts...I don't see the value there to move into top 7 for either of your deals. In both cases NJD and OTT will have the better value in the picked player.

So essentially you changed it to a cap dump, 28OA and 33OA… and took Guhle out? That’s even less interesting For 2OA

Very much disagree on Petry being on a bad contract and that will crystallize after Letang and Klingberg each sign for ~9M/season. Petry at 6.25M will seems like a steal...
Anderson... the jury is still not out. The habs were sooooo bad last season. I don't think you can look at any Habs player and say they are as bad as their numbers. Look at how much the traded habs are helping teams in the playoffs right now. Those guys did not have great numbers either during the season and GMs all pay attention to those things.

I do not believe Anderson is a cap dump. But if that's how you feel, cool. It's common knowledge the habs turned down 2 first round picks at the TDL for Anderson.

I wouldn't trade it if I could avoid it. They need an impact winger in the top 6, and the RHD side needs work. I think Ottawa can find a top 6 answer that doesn't cost the 7th pick, but going big game hunting for a Fiala/Nylander type is gonna cost you.

For the right side, dumping Zaitsev and promoting internally is almost enough on its own to sort them out this summer. Ideally they wouldn't have traded for Hamonic and instead looked to a guy like Ilya Lyubushkin or a trade for someone like Jon Marino, but they've made that bed and Hamonic was totally fine for Ottawa this year. Hopefully one of JBD or Thomson is ready for top 4 minutes by the end of season.

I actually think Petry would help the Sens enormously. He's really not the player we saw in the 1st half of last year, but very much the player we saw in the second 2nd half. 40-45pts. Skates better than any player on the Habs. Does not play the kind of game where the body breaks down because he defends with speed and gap control not with taking the body. Great 1st pass.

Gonna need a source for that one.
Josh Anderson’s LW counterpart is already in the NJ system twice anyway, with Pavel Zacha and Miles Wood. We already have that bad player lol

Petry is 34 with 3 years left. That screams albatross contract. Devils might as well keep Zacha than trade for Anderson.

I'm sure there's a team that'll bet on Petry, but I don't think it should be Ottawa. I don't have the faith you do that he'll be a 6mil player through the remainder of his contract, and adding that kind of money and term on a declining player would have huge consequences for the cap long term. Sens have a lot more big money deals to come in the next two years, I wouldn't want to have Petry on the books.

Would you add Klingberg or Letang to strengthen RHD and propel the team to the playoffs next season?

Klingberg is probably too expensive. Chabot's at 8mil, gotta think Klingberg is in that range too. The money on the Blue adds up quick, especially once Zub (4.5m+ imo)and Sanderson who I think could be a 1st pair Dman by the time his extension comes due.

Letang would be great short term, but I imagine he's gunning for term, and big money + big term on guys who don't fit the Thomas Chabot age range is a no from me.

Ideally I'd be looking for someone in the Zub mold. Steady defensively, solid skating, first pass and breakout ability. I don't think they need a top guy. They've got a 1-2-3 with Chabot, Sanderson and Zub, and they've got two NHL ready prospects who I think can fill the 4 spot long term. They really just need some to fill for a couple of year. Dylan DeMelo would have been a perfect fit. You know what he is, and you know that he works with Thomas Chabot.
