Unfortunately Sabres are in no position to absorb over 10 mil in cap for that long. Basically any deal longer than 2 years have to be for a game changing player. Trouba is very solid, but he is the one.

Drop Nemeth, hold 2m and I will give you Florida's 1st for Trouba I see from where you are coming, not a bad idea.

Could even keep him in there, 2.5 for 2 years offsets the retention on trouba for first 2 years and then he's out off the books once the Sabres need it. If Dahlin stays on the right - I think he should so Samuelsson isn't playing 3rd pair - they need an extra body on the left side to push Bryson
He does have a rather large contract, but it is for only 4 more years.
While the team played really well over the final 28 games getting 37 pts, adding Trouba, Cozens, Quinn and an average NHL GK could keep the Sabres in the hunt until the final two weeks.
Adding Trouba for only PHI second and BUF fourth from next year is nearly nothing compared to the value Jacob would bring to the team.
Dahlin - Trouba
Power - Jokiharju
Samuelsson - any number of options
Would be the best defense core the Sabres ever had.
Trouba is ONLY 28 years old and will be
ONLY 32 when his contract expires.
I would think with a little creative accounting the Sabres would be able to shoe horn in Cozens, Dahlin, Quinn, Thompson etc. and still be cap compliant the final year of his contract.
Then the following year Skinner's contract expires.
I would wait until 2028 before I would worry about cap issues as the cap may increase substantially by then.
