An elementary requirement of our forwards is that they play defense, so we have no interest in Hoffman, especially if he were to be given first-line duties. Moreover, his 15 goals in 67 games isn't better than Alex Iafallo's 17 in 79 games or Trevor Moore's 17 goals in 81 games because both of them are excellent defensively, getting significant time on the PK (where no one would dream of deploying Hoffman). In fact, upcoming youngsters like Carl Grundstrom (9 goals in 54 games) and rookie Arthur Kaliyev (14 goals in 80 games) can be expected to increase their production next year to Hoffman's anticipated level. And that $4.5 million cap hit is absurd for a guy with a one-dimensional game. If we go looking for a #1 LW, it will be through free agency, not via the trade market.
