Completely agree. I fully expect Habs to select Wright come July 7th. I just like exploring what the possibilities are that the Habs prefer someone other than Wright (In this case Nemec).
If MTL draft a dman, they would still need to target a C (via free agency or trade), and from a Habs perspective, Dubois (without his "french connection") actually fits perfectly...age, Left handed, etc. Obviously, WIN preferably want to keep him, but If Dubois wants the same contract as Suzuki (which is what I gave him here) would WIN still be able to keep him?

I see this a lot. The USHL and the OHL are vastly different leagues. USHL is feeder league for the NCAA and the OHL. Cooley would not have scored as much in the OHL IMO. Don't think his game will translate as well to the NHL as well because of his size. I would not draft Cooley... He's still too much of a project.

Arizona, Dallas and Winnipeg all pass.

Kris Letang gets closer to $8,000,000 x 4 years, For your offer he plays elsewhere.

Honestly, this draft is a crap shoot, you could be right with Cooley being the best player..... but you could be wrong. Really all depends who MTL will have on their draft board and in what order. imo I think they stick with Wright, but it's really not unrealistic to think they go with anyone we consider in the top 5 (Wright, Slafkovsky, Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek)

As a Jets fan, what's your take on if Dubois asks for Nick Suzuki money (which is what he has here), would the Jets still sign him to that deal? can they afford to?

Yes, we can easily do up to $9 by 8. More than that and we'd need to move out Dillon and replace him with Samberg and/or Heinola which many fans want to do regardless. Or we move Schmidt for a pick and replace him with Kovacevic, which I want us to do. I expect he signs for $8.5 by 8 or maybe $8 by 5. Suzuki used up a lot of RFA years where PLD will be mostly UFA years which will carry a premium. What is offered here would be a home town discount if he accepted it.

With Stas coming off the books the cap is super easy to manage, especially after we moved Little's LTIR hit at the deadline. It's a raise of less than $3M.

Hmmm, so then what's the asking price for Scheifele? I'm assuming he would have to be moved to free up cap space as well?

His size? He's 5'10 almost 5'11. And the UNTDP plays half their games against NCAA teams... Cooley against the 17-20 yo kid in the OHL probably would have had a 110pts+ season. Hes got everything to succeed and actually showed that he deserved to be 1st OA this year (contrarily to Wright who's been underwhelming to say the least, so much that now only 60% of the scouts have him at number one according to Bob McKenzie's info)

No, Scheif doesn't need to be moved either for cap purposes. An easy way to look at our cap is that Stastny's $3.75M is coming off the books and so is Sanford's $2M. They are getting replace by Baron and Gus at $925K. That frees up more the $4M in capspace and PLD already has a $5M hit. So we don't really need to move anyone due to capspace this year and if we did I would suggest that we would move out Schmidt and/or Dillon first as we have internal replacements that need spots.

It's funny but my price for Scheif and PLD are pretty similar. You have 2 years of control for both players. Scheif has a sweatheart caphit and has 6 consecutive years of at least point per game play but is older so you many not want him beyond these 2 years and has caught some criticism for cheating for offense this year.

PLD is younger and about to hit is prime and has multiple 60 point seasons, but brings more physicality. Scheif is a right handed shot, PLD a left handed shot. They really compliment each other well but I can't imagine that Scheif would ever waive to go to Montreal after their fans were calling up his parents and sister threatening them after the Evans hit. That's so far out of bounds in my view really took a toll on him so there really isn't a price for Montreal for 55. You guys are better off just using the pick and trying to be good again when Price's hit is off the books.

Scheifele would not have to be moved for cap purposes considering he has a value contract. However, he might be moved out to improve the culture of the team.. theres not really that much cap concern with the Jets.

Probably around 20%. Half half with Juraj. And thats taking into consideration Wrights name and status: what I mean by that is that if it wasnt for his exceptionnal status and past U18 WJC and 16yo season, scouts wouldnt be so scared to bet against him.
