Description
Kyle Dubas is a good GM. But it was Shanny that was 100% correct about this core back in 2018. Matthews/Marner/Tavares, you're all great hockey players, but it's not like Kuch/Point/Stamkos are in the poor house. The TBL just financially allow their GM more room to make moves. Now Dubas is going to have to sacrifice future pieces in order to compete. TOR absolutely can NOT go into next season with a question mark in net. It just can't happen.

$11.64M vs $9.5M
$11M vs $6.75M
$10.9M vs $8.5M

This delta is ~$9.5M and the differential in talent is negligible. I 100% would agree Matthews this year was the best out of them all, BUT that can't be said for every year. Kuch is a Hart winner after all.

$5.9M vs $7.875M (included for full transparency even though Hedman is far superior to Rielly)

CHI is a place holder for any team. I just think with Kyle Davidson outwardly saying "Re-Build"...they're a likely candidate. BUF is another good options.

    Whatever they want
    CHI
    1. Mrázek, Petr
    Détails additionnels:
Gotta Dump him. No matter the cost. TOR can't afford to go into next year with Mrazek on the roster because they'll 100% be a worse team than last year if he's on it.

    1. Holl, Justin
    Détails additionnels:
Dubas will find a home for Holl. He moved Dermott despite everyone's criticism...INCLUDING MYSELF.

I don't think you're allowed to do that.

I believe it's a very grey area. He's a UFA and can sign anywhere. So CHI/DET sign him and he plays a game or two...or even just let the backup play. All legit. You can then trade him and retain.

I mean MAF and the Hawks. They basically got him for free and turned it into a 2nd round pick for 50% retained. No one's calling that cap circumvention (I think) so who's to stop him from being traded in JAN or NOV?

I hear ya. I guess I just think Stamkos could have got more on the open market if he wanted to. Is the two years between Stamkos and Tavares really $2.5M per year? I get that Kuch and Point were RFA's, but so were Marner/Matthews/Nylander. Right? Kuch comes off a 100 point season as an RFA and signs a $9.5M contract WITH TERM. Marner comes off a 96 point season as an RFA and signs a $10.9M contract that walks him to UFA.

Don't forget the Babcock and Lou factor. Lou cost Marner a couple million saying they won't pay Sch. A bonuses (gave them to Matthews the following year), and Marner signed that contract thinking he's got to deal Babcock for the duration of the deal.

This isn't throwing mud at those 2, just two other factors that definitely played a roll.
