In my honest opinion, I wouldn’t trade Nylander for Kane 1 for 1. Kane is a better offensive player but the production gap is only going to be about 10-15 points at the most (Kane gets older + gets worse 5v5 linemates). Kane is a worse defensive player than Nylander, he’s basically Nylander at his worst defensively but 24/7. The term favours Nylander as well. The Leafs adding 2 top prospects and 2 1sts (and assets that equal the other stuff we’re getting back) would absolutely hold back the Leafs in the long run, and we’d arguably be worse this year! No thanks whatsoever. If we’re targeting a Chicago forward, I’d rather Debrincat. Better goal scorer than Kane, not too far behind in production, would cost a **** ton less, better play driver, better defensively, and is younger (plus if he had retained salary is a lot cheaper).
This isn’t 2015. Kane Is not a superstar anymore, and trading for players based on their past success as stars is the worst thing you could do as a contender
