Description
**Don't take the lines seriously, I didn't**

Schmaltz's salary is about to go way up starting in summer of 23 so I figure ARZ may wanna cut bait. Sabres allegedly tried a deal for him once before so who knows.

It's a step forward, even though it lacks some flash.

That Schmaltz deal is interesting, had a good year in Arizona. Contract is a little heavy, but if he kept up that production.

2nd is probably not enough for Varly in Lou’s mind. Also worth mentioning he has a 16 team no trade list.

Id think a 2nd would be pretty close given he's one year away from UFA. A starting role before his contract is up might make him willing to waive if Buffalo is on the list.

Good offer for Nick Schmaltz.

Lou probably wants a late 1st rounder for Varlamov, Plus with his 16 team no trade list i honestly doubt Buffalo isn't on it.

A single 3rd for Rakos Gudas should do it.

Kuemper fetched a 1st, a 3rd and Connor Timmons. He’s 34 and tight with Sorokin so I don’t think he waives for Buffalo. I don’t think Lou even considers trading him for a second. Isles would be better off keeping him if that’s all they can get.

I’d use the Kuemper deal as a model. I also assume if someone has a No Trade List than Buffalo is on it.

Just making sure I got this right.

Literally everyone: So you want a starting goalie?

Sabres: Yes

Literally Everyone: And you have three 1sts?

Sabres fans: Yes but I won’t trade them.

Literally Everyone: Nice talking to you. I recommend Adin Hill if you want to be cheap af.

I nor the Sabres wouldn't have a problem trading any of the firsts. Just not for a 34 year old. Idk what the goalie market is, or what Varly's plans for the future are. But I don't think its too far off. He could get a nice deal next off season if he has a good run with BUF

I’m sorry you feel that way. Unfortunately repeating that he’s 34 over and over again doesn’t change the fact that he’s a very good goalie. So thanks but no thanks. Go trade for Adin Hill. 🤫

Yes because it was always either Varlamov or Hill. There are quite literally no other goalies in the NHL. And you definitely speak for the Isles and no team has ever underwhelmed on a return ever.

I don’t speak for the Isles. I’m just telling you that if you are admitting your offer is underwhelming it’s obviously not a fair one Lmao.

I never claimed it was lol. The goalie market's a hard one to read. Maybe it will break in the Sabres favour, maybe it won't idk.

How many legit starters do you think are on the market? Hill is a decent backup but that’s about it. Binnington has a NTC. Helleybuck and Gibson have M-NTC’s and probably won’t be moved. I could go on. Free agents have a history of spurning Buffalo just like the Isles do.

Robin lehner to the Sabres was 7 years ago, and people here are still mad about it (not me fwiw, it was a cost effective goalie under team control that our gm knew and liked). Honestly, there are almost no goalies I would move a first for.

They don't need a legit starter, just a tandem better than Anderson/tokarski for next year. That makes the list considerably longer. And last I checked Hellebuyck doesnt have a clause, though I doubt they move him.

Hill sucks lol

He had a clause. You should know that because you check on this website. Hill was hurt but he’s fine as a backup. But if you don’t want to move real assets for a starter you aren’t gonna get one.
