Description
Rumour has it that the Weber to ARZ deal was blocked merely by a insurance payout and paperwork that didn't finalized before the deadline. It looks to be done in the offseason.
ARZ is in high need to reach the cap floor and with the new arena also need to be mindful of costs....the Weber addition helps and adding Drouin (with only one year remaining) helps them both short and long term and the pick is to sweeten the pot. (I'm just not quite sure on what the return would be on this type of package).

The Fiala deal is a player swap with a pick and prospect included to sweeten the deal.
Hoffman is a cheaper option (signed for two years) than it would take to resign Fiala (6M/year).
Adding in defensive prospect Norlinder would help begin getting their dcore younger as well.

Petry to DTR trade has been rumoured for some time now and with the young dcore coming into Motown, they will need a veteran presence to help mentor and provide stability. I can't see the wings spending money on both Staal and DeKeyser when they can get Petry for cheaper and more production.

I don't think Hughes and company will go for another veteran on D when they already have Savard (cup winner) and Edmundson who can help coach and mentor the youth coming in.

Lastly, I really think both Xhekaj and Guhle will make the team out of camp next season (Xhekaj is going to be fun and a fan favourite).
Clague and Byron will be shipped out at the TDL.

Long term (3 to 5 years), the team is in a comfortable cap situation with Byron coming off the books (money used for Caufield bridge contract) as well as Edmundson, Armia, Savard and Allen not needing to be resigned and the money being used for the young dcore (bridge contracts) while still having room to bring up youth in Ylonen, Heineman, Roy, Kidney, etc...

EDIT: Looking at the comments regarding Fiala - trade has been adjusted to include a 2nd (EDM) , while still including Hoffman (cheaper LW replacement), Poehling and Norlinder (on ELC). Also resigning him to 8.5M x 5. (I'm reluctant to give up a 1st (CAR) for him. But I think this looks much better now.
Detroit trade edited to exclude Mazur. Wings will go for Petry regardless of the comments made. It makes more sense for them to get Petry than to resign Staal and DeKeyser.

You aren’t even 1/3 of the way there for Fiala.

Yzerman wont give up any kind of value for Jeff Freaking Petry, Mazur is off the table. Whatever Yzerman offers for Petry you wont like.

And Filip Forsberg isn't wasting his time on a team that's going absolutely nowhere anytime soon.

And laugh on the Fiala contract, he's getting a heck of a lot more than $6,500,000 x 5 years try more like $8,500,000 x 8 years. And Minnesota can't afford that mess you're sending them.

Detroit trade edited to exclude Mazur. Wings will go for Petry regardless of the comments made. It makes more sense for them to get Petry than to resign Staal and DeKeyser.

Dekeyser will retire. Staal will be re-signed. Fantasyland Petry to Detroit CFACGM trades will never end.

Petry is a RD. Detroit don't need RD. Detroit need LD.

There was only one site linking Detroit and Dallas to Petry, And that was pretty much debunked. Detroit has no use for Petry even if we move Hronek we can still sign John Klingberg who's probably more realistic than Petry right now. As far as Staal and DeKeyser they're LD while Petry is RD and Staal at the most cost us $2,000,000 x 1 year which is still far cheaper than Petry. I'm pretty sure if Yzerman had any interest in Petry he'd be in a Red Wings uniform by now. Peddle him off to Philly sounds like they've interest in him.

I find it funny all the hate for Jeff Petry atm. He had a good season, especially at the end, despite the horrific Habs season. 2 years ago, any team would have taken him, but now that the last season wasn't his best, he has no value ? He still has value, and could truly help a team, by becoming the 45 points D-men that he was. Anyways, that's my opinion.

Guerin counters that trade offer with Jost, Dewar, and a 2nd for Suzuki.

Habs would have to give up a significant piece for Fiala.

What do people can't understand in Hugues comments that Montreal isn't going for big names this offseason?

It's not even hate for the player, it's hate for the tone deaf "square peg in round hole" ACGM's sending him to Detroit, when he makes ZERO sense here. His contract is really ugly due to his age and term left for a growing/rebuilding team. If a team is on the cusp of "win-now" mode, then maybe you eat a bad year or two of the contract, for 1 good year to make a run and maybe a team like the Penguins make sense if Letang walks, but that is not Detroit's situation and on top of it, we're very happy with our RD, it's our LD we need to address.
