Tavares is probably the most unlikely player to waive his NMC. He's playing in his home team he's adored for his whole life.

That all being said, DAL probably declines this. We simply can't afford this. We have no money coming off for next year when we need to re-sign Hintz.

As for those picks, isn't that TOR 2023 3rd locked as a conditional pick from the Ritchie trade? ARI more or less owns it unless they choose to take 2025 2nd.

How about we send you guys Seguin for Tavares as a base. We can settle the details around the trade after both players accepts to waive.

I understand why you would want that but the whole point was to get rid of Tavares' and his cap hit. Rather keep JT or just retain more money to dump him for free over taking back a contract that's 2 years longer for a worse player.

Yeah I know, they can agree that Dallas gets the pick that ARZ chooses not to take. Also things have changed since 2018, maybe Tavares and Dubas agree that this was a mistake and Tavares decides he wants to go elsewhere where there the heat isn't on him. Dallas was one of the 6 teams he's wanted to go to.

I'd argue TOR was the only team he wanted to "go in", but DAL was one of the 6 teams that were interested in him.

That being said, it was 5 years ago. Today DAL just has no interest towards him, nor do they have the cap space to even consider acquiring him.

It’s not like he is a washed 4th liner he is still a PPG Center with one of the best Faceoff % in the League & we’re fine keeping him

You would rather Gurianov and Faksa at 5.5M-6.5M over Tavares at 7.5M for the next 3 years? lmao what

The trade isn’t Guri and Fox for Tavares is it? I’d rather keep the first and second round picks. Guri and Damiani will be solid depth scoring guys if we ever get a coach that knows how to use them. Which is unlikely but whatever

Lol you think Arizona retains 3.5M for 3 years for just two 3rd round picks??? Carolina demanded a 1st for 1 year at 6M…while it’s less money per year, it is more years and it’s a total of 10.5M in retention…Arizona (or any team) is going to ask for a 1st to retain that amount

Carolina paid out like 4.5M in salary and took on 6.25M in dead cap, Marleau also had a NTC which severely limited Torontos options. Boston traded a 1st and got rid of Backes while getting Kase back when Backes had more money left on his deal. Under this scenario ARZ takes on 10.5M in cap while only paying 5.35M in actual salary over 3 years. This helps them reach the cap floor for cheaper. 2 3rds to take on 1.78M in salary seems pretty fair.

Toronto also only paid a 3rd to get rid of Ritchie who was owed like 4M left on his deal while getting a solid bottom pairing dman back. You cherry picked the worst comparable lol.
