Surely ONE of these young guys is a good player

Description
I wanna be clear. I know this roster would be dick. Don't take this too seriously, I dont think this is realistic, and I don't think this would even be a good team. I just think its a fun idea.

However, basically I look at it like this. You've got 8 unproven forwards. If half of them "hit" and become NHL caliber guys. You've got yourself a roster. Hell. Even if only 3 of them "hit" you've got yourself a good idea of who you wanna be keeping and you can then move out the rest of them for actual quality NHLers. Poulin, Legare, Heinen, Puustinen, Hallander, O'Connor, Zohorna, and Nylander. If even 3 of these guys are middle 6 caliber you can be competitive.

Plus, this roster leaves you with 12mil in cap space to acquire actual talent, and you still get to keep Geno and Letang. You keep fans happy, you keep Sid happy, you keep Geno and Letang happy. And you set yourself up for a chance to compete before the big 3s contracts are up (since you've got tons of cap space).

Nylander has a shot at being a pretty darn good NHLer if he can get out of his head and improve his work ethic on the ice. But that is why he never worked out in CHI. I think he was mismanaged here too, which probably took a big toll on his confidence.

All skill, minimal effort. Sad to see his potential wasted due to his seemingly me-first attitude on the ice. I was hyped about him when Buffalo drafted him, but then watching him play I understand why he doesn't have any sustained success at the pro level

Make me an offer. If I’m rebuilding it starts with a 1st… if I’m retooling I want a young forward back…

Hmm. Rosen (winger, pick 14 from last year) and vegas 2nd next year.

I'd have to do some research on that prospect but tbh that's not an awful offer on surface value... and tbh it's depressing to say it but outside of tage Thompson (who I wanted before his breakout year lol) there's not a lot of players I covet off BUF's roster...
I'd probably counter asking for 3 assets if there's no NHL roster player involved and it's just distant futures...
tbh trading marino prob isn't something the pens consider until it's a clear rebuild (maybe after next season if we don't make it past the first round again.)
how good a prospect is ukka-pekka the goalie?

I actually liked the under the radar pickup of Nylander as a dark horse bounce-back candidate....
If he has a good training camp I'd give him a shot in the NHL next year...

For sure, I was hoping our new GM would give him another shot like he did with Strome, but he just got rid of him right away. At first, I hated that trade from a CHI perspective. But Lafferty has definitely proven to be useful at the NHL level. He doesn't seem like a difference maker at this point, but he works hard on the ice, is a pest to other teams, and seems to be a good locker room guy too. I still don't 100% like the trade to be honest, because we essentially traded Jokiharu for Lafferty. But Lafferty isn't as much of a nobody as I expected him to be.

Upl is graduating from prospect to player. He was uneven this year, I've heard people close to the organization say that, if all three of our goalie prospects hit their ceilings, upl is #3. It probably goes Levi, portillo (who we could lose for nothing next august), and then upl. Upl is probably up with the Sabres next year, but I see him backing up a Vet for the season. As far as forward prospects go, Quinn and peterka both had great years in the ahl, they will be up and likely contributing next season. After them, it's Rosen, bloom, and the 3 Russian kids from last years draft.

For what it's worth, I just picked buffalo as a filler team for the trade. Doesn't actually have to be them. Just the idea is you ship out those 4 for picks or prospects.
