Description
Status Quo.

Just 2 new forwards, a steady backup goalie and better balance on all 4 lines and pairings. On defense, pairing youngsters with steady vets with a physical defensive 7th. At forward, bringing up 2 youngsters in Robertson and 1 of Steeves or SDA or Anderson and two solid 2 way forwards in Paul and Bjork.

Sabres pass imo
Can’t see us being remotely interested in Mrazek
He was pretty brutal last year

Idk that a couple late 3rds & a late 4th will do the trick to get us to spend the extra $$ as our ownership has been cutting costs since Covid

I agree, while BUF will probably spend some cap space and dont have goalies, I think for some team to take on the mess that was Mrazek of 21-22 and that ridiculous Dubas contract, it will take a nice package of picks. Maybe Bjork unbalances the package to take on Mrazek, but he too is a 1.6mil waste of roster space, but both may rebound.

Ideally Mrazek and a 2nd and 4th would be better for someone (BUF, ARZ, ?) to take him on, but TOR doesn;t have one

Buffalo would prefer less, but higher draft picks to take that contract from Leafs.
As for Bjork, we don't know the structure of his deal, maybe there is low buyout or unguaranteed for next year, so that contract is not a problem.

I think it’s gonna be tough for u guys to get rid of Mrazek
It’ll probably cost more than you’d wanna pay, so u could be stuck with him
Is a buyout an option that might make sense?

Buyout an option, but ideally its all about the entire cap space (3.8mil) and getting a solid 2 way reclaimation project who could play 3rd line in this proposal.

Mrazek as a backup (with his history of injuries, hes let down 3 teams: PHI, DET, TOR) can be really good when healthy, but hes overpaid by about 1.5-2mil.

BUF has the cap, but doesn;t really need prospects (and TOR cant afford to move any), and could use a solid (if healthy) veteran goalie to aid the youngster, but ultimately I think in a perfect world, some team with cap space would take Mrazek and a 2nd and 4th for futures, (but alas TOR has no 2nds).

What about something like sending a first with Mrazek for a second? (Not saying I would accept, just curious about your thoughts on the value.

Quite possible. If the above deal was Mrazek and 2022 TOR 1st, for Bjork, and 2nd (BUF or PHI), I think TOR looks long and hard. Keeping Mrazek at 3.8mil is just not possibility with Campbell a UFA, the cap constraints, and the team so close to a contender that it cant waste 3.8mil on an unreliable commodity.

Two guys on the outs with upside, both overpaid, the difference between 20 or so draft spots? Maybe

if the leafs are ready to throw over a million bucks away on multiple years for a non-nhler like hagg, they'd just buy mrazek out and keep the picks

Buffalo personally torched Mrázek every time they played him last year. He has a long term albatross contract that literally nobody wants. Bjork on the other hand has a one-year deal that can be mostly buried in the minors if he continues to be useless. Mrázek wouldn’t even be worth burying in the AHL at that price. The Sabres would rather sign Tokarski to play down in Rochester.

I don't see Edmonton being interested in Holl. Besides, they don't have the cap space.

Absolutely no interest in installing Jake Muzzin 2.0 even if he would waive his NTC, plus we could re-sign Alex Edler for less than Jake's cap hit, and we would probably get the same results without having to expend assets to re-acquire Muzz.

It's 2 years 3.8 million... not exactly a long term, or an albatross especially considering they're moving out 1.6 of it with Bjork. Sabres will be nowhere near cap strapped for 2 years - when they have like 10 RFAs to take care. I'd take this deal if it wasn't the leafs
