I really do not think we are a better team as a result of these moves. Either they dont make sense or the value is off.

Somewhat like Rutherford said, hard decisions have to be made. Not saying this team contends at all next year but adds young players , draft picks and cap space.

The team isn't looking to take a big step forward next year because they need to figure out their cap situation

If I can provide some input here, I will say that the Canucks shouldn't look to retain salary on Pearson, especially not in a move like that, I don't care what Florida's cap situation is like, that's not VAN's concern

Secondly, I don't see Erik Johnson waiving his trade-protection clause to come to Vancouver

The idea is to leverage those situations for young talent. Two years retain on Pearson is nothing in the grand scheme here. Maybe Johnson wouldn't but these are just ideas to take advantage of.

I still wouldn't retain on Pearson. The only guys the Canucks should consider retaining salary on are Myers or OEL if either gets moved

COL wouldnt do that. EJ is still a good D man even if hes overpaid, they arent going to move Olausson in a deal like that

Myers I agree but OEL would be tough especially with flat cap.

Avs wouldn’t do that trade for EJ straight up. Why would they add their best prospect?

Nice to free up a good chunk of cap for the 3rd pair guy. Teams won't be looking to help the avs if they want to move him.

EJ is just fine as a 3rd pair guy in Colorado, he’s just overpaid by $2-3M for the next year. You are receiving a decent (albeit overpaid) defenseman and the Avs #1 prospect who is only 19 for a mediocre 4th liner, a 22 yr old goalie prospect who is #4 on Vancouver’s depth chart, and ****in Tucker Poolman. Get real.

It's not a great package but that's to be expected of avs have to shed cap. The teams with cap will want to be paid take on Johnson. The teams who want to add him for RHD help won't want to part with much.

The prospect piece is fine to say too much. You're not wrong there.

Why? A solid prospect who scored most his points on even strength in return for a player likely to regress now?
