Severson refuses to extend

Description
Ultimately, I think Sevs he will stay in New Jersey. That's what I'd want anyway.
This is just to see what the Devils roster could look like in October if he wants out.

Just to say, I don't think there's any real chance Nylander is traded this off season.
His current contract fits perfectly with Toronto's current window of contention.

It's a bit wonky burying Mrazek but with the recent luck with injuries Devils have had you might as well roll with three vets in the organization.

Trading a PPG player to save cap space would be a huge mistake.

There are other ways to move Holl and/or Mrazek without having to include Nylander.

Leafs dont touch that. Not even close, the difference between holl and Severson isnt near big enough to get more than a late 2nd let alone nylander and a guy they can buy out easily doesnt change that

Fair. Wanted to take a punt on a Nylander trade myself given how often Leafs fans on here trade him for all sorts of returns.
    Oh well.

Yeah, I wouldn't put too much stock in TOR fans who trade Nylander on here. It's most likely a result of an off game and all of a sudden want cap relief.

He's a frustrating player sometimes, but his skill level is off the charts. Worth keeping around in my opinion.

Canes will likely move Bear, but not for this. Carolina only have 2 UFA forwards to replace (Domi exluded, he was brought in as a rental) in the top nine. Just cough up a 2nd and be done with it

Meh. That just means I'd have to move Wood and someone else to some other team.
Value given to Canes here is probably equivalent to a late 1st - early 2nd anyway.

I'd rather have the pick than a 4th liner in Wood and a prospect that's good but nothing great.

Honestly I think you would need to send zacha to Toronto in that trade.
I think Vegas has better options as well than trading Hague.

Personally, I think the cap space is creating a lot of value in my suggested trade.
Resigning Kase, Engvall, Sandin and Liljegren should cost around 10m.
Then you got Rielly's 7.5m extension kicking in, gotta resign Campbell to something like 4m.
I messed around a little bit now for a Leafs 22-23 AGM moving Kerfoot instead of Nylander and buying Mrazek out, and it's honestly quite the struggle to fit a 23 man roster.
I get that my Nylander trade may seem somewhat underwhelming but it seems to me Dubas is really up against it yet again.

Even if they trade Kerfoot out I don't really see how Leafs could make room for Zacha, unless they walk from Kase or Engvall.

idk about Vegas, 2m over the cap already without resigning Roy and Hague. No one's gonna be looking to them any favours.
They might figure it out if they move Lehner and Dadonov out but that's easier said than done.

Every year people (including TOR fans) say that TOR is screwed with the cap, and every year Dubas finds a way to make it work.

    I've stopped worrying about it.

    I admire your faith.
But "finding a way to make it work" includes moves like giving Seth Jarvis to Carolina for taking on Marleau's cap.
Don't really see Dubas having that much more leverage this summer than in 2019.

At this point in time, continuing to be angry as a Leafs fan is exhausting. What they do is out of my control, might as well have faith.

I mean, it was Lou who gave Marleau that heavy contract. But yes, Dubas did give up the 1st rounder to be rid of it. Turned out that CAR got a good player out of it, which is why Dubas won't do it again.

IRL it'd probably be a bigger return going the other way but figured Dadonov at 2.5m would be a fit for the Avs given all the UFA's they have.

Nylander is gone at the end of the playoffs, way too soft and scared of the physicality and corners

Value is harder to determine when Dadonov has M-NTC which makes moving him slightly more difficult and could skew the return

    Interesting scenario.

    Let me branch an alternative:
    - Instead of Dreiser from Seattle, bring back Larsson
    - Nix the Carolina deal and keep Wood at 4LW
    - Play Mrazek

I don't know much about the Toronto stuff but for Vegas I'm hoping that Martinez goes to Detroit possibly with Dadonov and Brossoit. Brossoit likely traded, no trade protection and the emergence of Thompson makes him expendable.

I wouldn't trade Nylander for Severson. Holl roughly worth a 3rd, which is approximately what it would cost to move Mrazek, so that part makes sense.

If the rumors about Blackwood and the Devils are true, and the relationship has soured, maybe he gets worked in.

This wouldn't be too bad either.
Larsson's still a great defender and if keeping Wood it shouldn't be that big of a struggle in finding a taker for AJ.

I would worry a little bit about going into 22-23 with a tandem of Blackwood and Mrazek.
Though I suspect you're higher on Petr than I am and I am higher on Driedger than you are.

I think Mrazek is an okay veteran...I'm not really the best judge on goaltending.
In an ideal world, Bernier, Blackwood are healthy...Daws and Schmid develop...and its a 4-way competition.
My goal in adding a goalie has been to add someone who would compete for spot.
