Chicago doesn't own a first (went to Columbus). Kane is on an expiring deal. Hawks are heading towards a rebuild. Lou just made an incredibly ballsy move firing Trotz and probably feels the need to do something splashy.

NYI
  1. Gostisbehere, Shayne

Détails additionnels:
"Hockey trade" - Isles get a stop gap LD for the year with offensive upside. Snagged Aatu Raty's brother just because. He's a former 7th round pick.

  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
AZ also keeps NYI 2023 3rd previously tied to the Ladd trade. The Isles would get the pick back if he plays 1 game next season.

Bailey would play top-6 minutes and is owed less real cash than his AAV. AZ needs to get to the cap floor. He would provide some leadership to a young locker room.

Somehow I think there's better offers coming for Kane than this. And NYI should not move Beauvillier imo.

As for Ghost, he had a 50+ point year. He's redeemed himself in the desert, and has significantly more value than Bailey imo. 3rd rounder is not changing this.

yes its absurd. Kane will be 34 in November, plus hes more of a playmaker than a shooter at this point in his career.

Kane is the worst defensive forward in the NHL and Lee is also terrible defensively. When Barzal is the defensive forward on the line I don't think its going to work.

This is going to be one hell of a team to watch in the offseason and no matter what they do, what happens behind the bench is going to be just as interesting, because I could totally see Lou doing something moronic like bringing Babs in.

13th overall is somewhat tempting, but the 50% retention makes it less so. Beauvillier doesn't really move the needle for CHI. Wilde isn't much more than a reclamation project. CHI does have somewhat of a need for right handed defensive depth, but I'm sure they could do better with what they have and through free agency.

It's not really that absurd. Kane is going to play into his 40's. In one of CHI's worst seasons in a very long time, he is still putting up top tier numbers.

Babcock and Tortorella are my nightmare scenarios. I'm pulling for Paul Maurice or Bruce Boudreau (if he shakes free out of VAN). I'd like Lambert to be named HC for continuity but for Lou to say the team needed a "new voice" hiring the 20 year Trotz disciple seems counterintuitive

I was considering Wahlstrom over Beauvillier. I'd just as quickly move him instead if that's what it took. Result would be not signing Smith and playing Aatu Raty on the 3rd line. The retention is a lot on paper but it's only for this coming season. Not a long term detriment to the cap. If Chicago sells Kane/Toews it's signaling a big rebuild and they probably won't be spending up to the cap ceiling anyways

he also plays with one of the best snipers in the game. I don't care that he put up a lot of points, his play driving, defensive play and his 5v5 play have regressed each year. He's still a solid top 6 Forward, but he is not a star.

Lol it takes talent to acquire talent. I'm trying to think like the GM who just fired a top 3 coach in the league and needs to make a ballsy move. Whether we agree with Lou or not, he didn't take this job to ease into retirement. Guy desperately wants to win a Cup.

lol. Kane play defense? Have you ever even watched Kane? He probably plays more defense now on a bad CHI team than he has ever had to in his whole career. As a CHI fan that watches every game they play, he is absolutely still a star. Also, not to take anything away from Cat because he does a lot of great things on both sides of the puck, but Cat wouldn't be putting up the offensive numbers he has so early in his career without Kane's playmaking ability.

I think Boudreau will shake free, he will have a long list of teams interested for sure. Babs and Torts would be terrifying lol. I think Maurice would fit really well with the Islanders, I really like that idea actually. Out of teams that would be hiring a coach actively or potentially, I would think the Island would be Maurice's best fit.

kane isn't even close to the type of player that puts the isles over the top, especially when you factor in the assets you're giving up. Beauvillier had a down year, but the previous season his overall impact was not far off from Kane, so you're overestimating what Kane would bring to the isles in his AGE 34 season.

Just because he didn't take the job to ease into retirement doesn't mean he needs to give up a ton of high value assets for a player exiting his prime. There are players under the age of 30 available, including Kevin Fiala. If this is the route he takes (trading for Kane), then the LL era should be regarded as the same as the Milbury era, if not worse.

Also including Wahlstrom would never happen, if isles fans haven't learned by now, Lou doesn't trade his own draft picks.

Are we talking about the same Patrick Kane? He has some of the worst defensive metrics in the NHL and even if you watch hes a floater. He constantly cherry picks and only focuses on offense.

That's what I'm saying. He doesn't play defense. But he still probably played more defense this season than I have ever seen from him. I remember laughing a handful of times this season seeing him back checking, joining puck battles in the defensive zone, and even throwing a few hits because he so rarely does that stuff. Now, whether that defense was successful or not is a different story.

Yeah my point is the defense isn't successful and a couple of times of Kane back checking doesn't really mean much. Kane has never been a great defensive forward but when the Blackhawks were winning cups, he wasn't a liability, now he's a liability which is why he doesn't have the overall impact of a star forward. When Kane is on the ice, his team spends a lot of time in the defensive zone.

You're not bringing Kane in to play defense, you're bringing him in to increase scoring. I don't think he'd waive for the Islanders and I don't think he's going to commit to a team beyond next season.

@joshelkin btw Patrick Kane has averaged over 21 min a game over the last 3 seasons, none of the isles forwards have averaged more then 19 min over the past 2 seasons. Plus Kane is out for empty net situations defending a lead, so he gets plenty of EN points,

Here are the even strength goals per 60 min rates from this past season, since most of the game is played at even strength.

Nelson: 1.25 goals per 60
Palmieri: .84 goas per 60
Barzal: .72 goals per 60
Kane: .66 goals per 60
Wahlstrom: .64 goals per 60

Kane quality of teammates were also much higher than anyone he'd play with on the isles. If you cut Kanes minutes down to 18 min on the isles and not let him play in empty net situations, he wouldn't be a PPG player. When talking about isles forwards point totals, it gets left out that the isles don't give top line minutes to any of their forwards, that's why you have to use per 60 rates to put them on the same level forwards around the league with more ice time.

I agree, I generally don't care if a top 6 forward is proficient defensively. The issue is Kane is he has one of the worst defensive impacts in the league. You can't win with players like that. He wasn't this bad defensively during the cup years

The entire team sucks defensively, the past 5 seasons have been throw away seasons. I'm actually glad he doesn't do too much in the D zone and wind up injured. What's the point? I don't think he gets moved unless it's to a top 5 team in the league. There are certainly a few teams that are able to afford his lack of defense for his offensive prowess.

Strome, Debrincat, Toews, Lafferty, Borgstrom all had postive defensive impacts. Playing more defense wouldn't mean he would risk getting injured.

Kane extended would bring back a top prospect and a 23' first at minimum. The deal you posted would get beat out pretty easily if the hawks retained on the 1 season and he agreed to an extension. With that said I don't think Kane would sign an extension for another team until playing there first to see if it's a good fit.

It's not a bad deal, I just don't see him signing an extension anywhere else, but that's purely a hunch. It's not a bad offer, hawks might end up flipping Beauvillier, but it's not off.
