if the devils think that habs pick is a top 10 next year, they probably take it on the basis they are getting 2 other picks and also that next years draft is deeper so 10 next year might be like 4-5th this year

Gotta imagine this is an easy yes from the Devils

I get that it's a lot to pay, but if we draft Wright/Slaf we have a chance to crawl out of the basement pretty quickly (If you believe both guys can make a meaningful impact in the NHL starting next season as they grow over a few years).

Plus... just imagine the splash at the draft.

You understand of course that we could lose for the entire season next year and still only have a 15% chance to draft Bedard. I hate losing quite a lot. If you do it for too long it starts to feel normal.

Yes but it is still not worth it IMO. If it were top 10 protected that would be more palatable but absolutely not unprotected!

Slaf isnt elite. Its mostly hope he puts it all together with his size. Looks like his ceiling is as a top6 forward.

Sorry I wouldnt even trade the 2023 1st unprotected for the 2OA.

I also think Nemec would be the much better pick at 2OA. Nemec/Jiricek both look like potential number 1 D. You have to draft for the high ceiling.
