You’re not even fielding a full roster and you have no cap space. Needless to say most of this doesn’t make a lot of sense then.

Considering the level of intellect in the conversation I can expect with you I’m starting to suspect I’ve been watching hockey longer than you have been alive. Since you know so much about hockey, how the hell does this make any sense? No team could expect to play an entire season with less than a full roster and no cap space to accommodate for injuries or call ups.

That’s an easy “no” from the Sabres

We aren’t looking for an offensive defenseman, period
We also wouldn’t want a 35year old with 3 years left on his deal, and not many teams would
So i doubt u guys get a good return for Petry with his $6mil + cap hit
Maybe if u guys hold half his salary, but even then it’s iffy

Is that better for you? I changed it up. Also you realize you don't have to carry extras right? You can just let the cap space accrue and call up players when you need as most teams have been doing due to covid restrictions.

Why in the world would we take on Tyler Myers’s at 6m per when we are desperate to unload Petry (Far better defenceman) at 6.5m? No to all of these moves. We are trying to shed salary to pay the younger players down the road. Also, not trying be a team full of veterans that goes 35-47…

Sabres decline. They are not paying to get Jeff Petry at all.

Actually the league allowed for the taxi squad again this season. It basically allowed teams to have players that are scratched without having them on the actual roster, or counting them against the cap. I can’t imagine they will continue to have that much longer. I strongly doubt that most teams are carrying only 20 players on the roster though.

The Leafs and Sabres are two teams that could ice only 20 players with their farm clubs close to the NHL team.
On to the trade, IMO Buffalo would strongly consider getting Jeff for only 2023 2nd and 2014 4th.
If Chiarot returned a first, I would think Petry is at least as valuable.

@Tjm220 have you been watching Hockey for more than 50 years?
At one time we would watch it through the snow using rabbit ears from Hamilton on our B&W TV.

I wasn’t aware that the two of you know each other. I’m not 50 years old, but I have been watching hockey my entire life which is still over 36 years. You’ll learn a lot watching the game for that long, of course you also have to watch more than your favorite team to really get a solid knowledge base for how the game is played across the league, who the good up-and-coming players are that don’t get talked about, and which ones other people might not know about. Interactions between you and I have been pretty positive over the last couple years, Matthewslover and I have not gotten off on the right foot to say the least.

I do not know Matthewslover, I just wanted to add my penny and a half to the conversation.
He was rather harsh on you at first.

I guess you and I get along because I do as you do, watch other teams play and try to understand hockey.
I will actually listen to the opposite team broadcast to learn more about the Sabres and the other team.

I remember one time a member of my extended family said "all teams do that" in reference to the Sabres playing chippy.
So I asked do watch any games in which the Sabres do not play? The answer was no.
Then I asked, do watch the entire Sabre game or only when you hear some cheering? The answer was when they hear cheering.
So I said not only do not watch what other teams do, you do not even watch the Sabre, how would you know what other teams do.

I do not proclaim to know everything, if someone makes a good point which seems reasonable to me, I do not challenge it.
I like this app as I expect to learn from other posts and I learned not to argue with other people.
I make my point, if some one disagrees, I read, process and learn, but I seldom reply to carry on a discussion that I know will fall on deaf ears.
I never enter into a conversation in which someone has already posted what I believe, I do not need to read my own thoughts when others have expressed it.

But yes, our POV is often in lock step.
