If the Leafs didn’t pay that price at the TDL, they certainly are not paying that price now that Miller is a rental.

I'd have to think they asked for more at the deadline.

Canucks decline the NJ trade. Demko is untouchable, and in a hypothetical scenario it takes more than that to get both him and Boeser

Would do the Leafs trade but don’t think they would accept it

I still don't understand the obstinacy on keeping Demko on a bad team. It does no one any favors, it's just a waste of time for him and waste of value for VAN until he's not good enough anymore. See Gibson for example.

Man played the best years of his career in a team with no chance to get in playoffs and now his numbers are decreasing. I think VAN is doing this exact same mistake.

It tough but I would do it
All the pieces are replacable
Demko replaces Blackwood
Boeser replaces Zacha
Bahl replaces Walsh
The picks are tough to give away but its worth it.
Demko in net would make the Devils a playoff team

Vancouver finished 6 points behind the Dallas Stars. They aren’t necessarily a bad team. They aren’t great but once again, they aren’t a tire fire like New Jersey. He’s 25 and still has a lot of his prime left. Blowing it up right now would be really bad. If we rebuild, we can say goodbye to Miller, Garland, Boeser, Horvat, and Pettersson. A full on rebuild would send the Canucks back 5-7 years. They realistically just need to revamp the backend and maybe improve depth. Trading Demko would only just leave another massive hole that will be hard to fill

Edit: he’s only just finished his second year of being a starter and had his best year this year so I’m not quite sure how his numbers are declining

Stars isn't exactly a good team either. They managed the bare minimum to make it in.

Difference between Nucks and Devils are that Devils actually has a future. Nucks is and will stay very mediocre for foreseeable future as they don't have a great prospect pool and their current roster is about as good as they can get until they do a retool, and even that isn't good enough for playoffs. I'd argue Demko where he currently is would fit much better in a promising future top team than a team like Nucks who's trending downwards. Granted the hole trading him would create is big, but there's so many holes to fill in there that it will take time regardless.

Gibson is 29. Demko is 26. There's not much age difference between them. Demko is pretty much at the age where Gibson started to trend downwards. Note that I'm not expecting this to happen, but goalies are bit voodoo in that sense.

Also to be fair imo Demko is pretty overrated in terms of what he has actually done in his very short career in relation to his age. He has no accolades, he has less than a handful of playoff games and he hasn't played a season with over 0.915% save percentage season

Demko has only played 2 seasons as a starter. I’d be very shocked if he ends up peaking in his sophomore year as a starter. His 0.915 save % is very very impressive if you take a look at the defense in front of him. As you said, the Canucks have holes and defense is a big one. He is top 10 in the league in GSAx and I think has one of the highest, if not the highest even strength save % in the league. He is not overrated whatsoever. He’s honestly underrated as I haven’t heard anybody talk about him outside of Canucks fans. Given Jim Ruthford is Thatcher Demko’s biggest fan, I don’t see him being moved as long as he is alive. Trading a goalie at 26 due to being afraid he’s going to decline is pretty silly if you asked me. At the moment, the only big holes the Canucks need to fill is the defense and depth. For defense, we just need 2 top 4 guys. Schenn has been playing pretty good but ideally we don’t have Schenn, Myers, and Poolman as our RHD. With Miller, Boeser, and Garland, I’m sure we could acquire the assets to fill that hole. The Canucks have their first pick this year. Idk what they will do with it but it immediately helps their prospect pipeline. Miller is also likely traded. His value is very high and can easily fetch us 3 very nice assets. Demko is the last thing we should consider moving

I agree that Demko is a great goalie (why would I suggest spending a 2nd overall for him if I didn't think this lol), but to be fair we only have one and a half year to look at in which he did perform admirably. But It's still a fact he doesn't have any accolades in terms of playoff success or personal awards. He has like 1 playoff win on his name against Vegas Golden Chokers in the bubble.

I don't suggest on trading him because they'd be "afraid of him starting decline." That is indeed silly.

What I'd suggest is capitalizing on that insane value he's got right now due to playing really well in a pretty challenging environment.

As you said, Nucks is about to retool regardless what happens, and it's more than likely that the next 2-3 years, possibly even more are going to be a struggle for them. How long Demko is going to carry them? Is Demko still a force to be reckoned with when he's 30+? He's signed for four more years, and at least half of that is going to be spent on VAN building their outlook. Is he willing to stay after his contract expires? These are not claims, but questions.

Pettersson and Hughes are the future of this team. But the difference between them and Demko is the fact that they're 23 and 22 respectively, while Demko's turning 27 this year. Demko is great, but does he fit your timeline? I would say no, and if VAN achieves nothing during his contract then it kind of proves my initial point of this being a chance VAN failed to use to actually build a consistent top team. VAN hasn't had one in ages.
