I like the player and what he could bring, don't like the 4th year, but I would do that trade. We really only have Dahlin and Tage as big money Contracts over the next 3yrs. IMO Buffalo accepts

Copp is going to want more term than 4 years. Motte probably gets more money over that amount of term as well

I'm not sure sending a 50 goal guy to a division rival is a great idea, maybe out west. I can't see kadri taking 1 year. Someone gives him more term even if the dollars are a bit less.

The entire team except skinner and tuch will need new contracts. If none of them require real money then we are doomed and everyone fired

Good point...if he'd waive his NMC, I do see BUF as a real good fit- but in any case a move would probably require retention. Who pays for the retention is another discussion- and there are several options- but Trouba at 6-6.5M makes a whole lot more sense

Other than that, if Kreider and Trouba would be willing to waive- nothing here is outlandish...but I don't see Kadri signing for 1 year. The way he plays he's 1 injury or suspension from shooting himself in the foot...so I see him looking for a deal with term. Some players might take a short deal and bet on themselves- anticipating a CAP jump in a year or two...don't think Kadri is one of them.

Having dahlin and power means not having to overpay for defensemen.

Sure in 2 to 3yrs, but who Asplund, maybe Cozens Mitts.
Olofsson should already be under contract, half the team will be on ELC's. The 4th year will be tough, but good teams find a way, he would make us better.

Trouba at 6-6.5M would not be an overpay...and the work load he could take on, the physicality he'd bring, and the leadership he'd bring....would all be invaluable to the young, developing stud Dmen BUF has. And it would enable Dahlin to remain on the left side (I'm guessing his natural/better side). Only problem here is that everything he could provide BUF, NYR still need from him...no in house replacement is yet ready...so at the moment, I don't think NYR would look to do this.

Quinn, Peterka, Krebs, Samuelsson, Dahlin, Jokharju, Power. The problem with ELCs is that they only last 3 years, when the player is in the NHL

Sure so the 4th year on Trouba could be tough, but even so who on that list is gonna get a huge payday. They all be getting 1st contracts after there ELC'S except Dahlin and Joker.

I can see that, Quinn hasnt done anything in the NHL so we dont really know what he'll get by then, and I doubt Peterka will command a huge raise. Power they might want to lock up for a while, but maybe they bridge him so they can maximize his RFA period, Krebs and Samuelsson will be interesting though theyll be like 8-10 mill in cap combined

I don't agree with any of that.

Samuelsson-Dahlin is our top pair. Not interested in breaking it up

If BUF would look to keep him on the right, then depending where they assess Jokiharu and their RD pipeline- Trouba might not be a fit. Point is for many teams, at 6-6.5M per, Trouba would be a very solid addition...but you're certainly not making that move to put him on 3rd pair!

Well have to pay a goalie too and if we don't pay mittelstadt or jokiharju we will need replacements.

Also, trouba isn't very good

Put him with Power on the 2nd pair, move Joker down. Much easier to find LD

If BUF would look to keep him on the right... In Europe wingers and D-men typically play their off side, in the NHL most HC like to have them play on their strong side.
Dumping the puck to the right of the GK, exploits teams that have two LHD in the same pairing and the defenders are forced to backhand the puck to move it forward.
Most NHL coaches and GM's avoid having too many LHD for that reason.

Two year ago Trouba was traded for Pionk and 20th OA, this season he just put up 11 goals his personal best, and some think the 24th OA is too much (presuming WAS eliminates FLA in the first round).
Trouba in a Sabre uniform would balance our defense.
While Jeramiah Crowe has done a great job drafting the past two years, I doubt he will find any one better than Jacob with the Florida pick.

BTW, I have found when dealing with Little and Shibbal, make your point and ignore their retort.
They are both self proclaimed experts and will ignore all facts that contradict their POV.

Lapierre, 2nd for Kreider

Pass. The Caps need skilled youth, not another guy on the wrong side of 31 with a handful of years at $6M+, being sold on an outlier stats year so hopefully no one will look at the contract.
