This is a Devils team proposal looking for a simple, uncomplicated offseason. There is one thing that the team has to do which isn't yet done here: namely, finding a new starting-grade goaltender. We simply can't rely on Bernier returning to form given his injury, nor can we rely on Blackwood. The team needs another goalie replacing one of the two who can be counted on to start 40-60 games and provide solidly above-replacement goaltending—something the team hasn't had for a few years now.

So: what are New Jersey's options? Go for low-cost, potentially high-return and sign a Ville Husso? Go for a Jack Campbell? Darcy Kuemper? Or is the option going for a really high-cost option and trying to trade for someone like Hellebuyck?

Also, likely the team needs to unload some of its excess forwards. Holtz could easily force one of the mid-6 options (Johnsson, Tatar, Kuokkanen) who have underperformed out of the lineup. We have the cap to just eat their contracts for a year, but I'm sure we'd rather trade them for some kind of return.
