It shouldn't. Seider is ahead of everyone with a large gap to whoever is the runner up. And Zegras should rank ahead of Bunting.

No, Bunting gets 2nd, he's had a better year than Zegras, sure he's playing with better linemates but you still have to be good to put up those stats, not everyone can do well on Matthews/Marner's side

Not denying Buying has been good, he's been very good and he filled the hole Hyman left perfectly. But it's not just the fact that he played with Matthews and Marner but also that Zegras had to play with AHL caliber players a lot. Coaching have limited his chances to win the calder drastically because of stupid lineup decisions and bad calls by Eakins. Zegras drives the play better and makes all of his line mates better no matter how bad they are. I don't see that with Bunting, he doesn't do enough on his own. Not everyone can play well with Marner and Matthews but its definitely easier than playing with the guys Zegras has had to play with a lot this year. Bunting's point totals are definitely inflated, he's been good but not as good as his point totals might suggest. Also: Zegras' PPG > Bunting (even though it's only by 0.01)

Additionally, Bunting is a lo older but this shouldn't be ones main point against Bunting. But it should be a factor even though it's not an important one.

Seider for Calder.
Tougher position to play and at 21-yrs he's pretty much a stud since DET game 1.

If Seider and Bunting are 'back in the draft' and the only two players left to be picked - all the GMs would take Sieder knowing what we know now from 2021-22 season...

I said that age shouldn't be your main point against Bunting, that would be stupid. But the age does play a role as it puts his and Zegras' seasons into better context. Leaving their ages out of the discussion doesn't change a thing though anyway, my opinion remains the same.

Of course line mates matter in the sense that they impact who had the best rookie season. You have to look at them and figure out how much of an influence they had on the season. And technically it's who had the most "proficient" rookie season, I believe, which isn't the same as "best". And to decipher that you need to factor in everything, including line mates, ice time, chances given by the coaches. And even by overall performance Zegras is basically equal to Bunting, now factor in the things you declared irrelevant and Zegras comes out on top.

Problem is that many voters have their own definition of awards. It shouldn't be open to interpretation, but it is. Like it or not, Seider and Zegras will get "weighted" consideration, b/c of his age, his team, his position, etc...

Jesperi Kotkaniemi just looks like a passenger so far in the series against BOS

to be fair, kotka doesnt match up with boston well in carolina's system. i think they brought him in as trochek insurance, who is absolutely killing us. biggest issue is defense isnt helping generate any scoring chances.
