21 man roster won't work.

Bad trades for toronto

Unrealistic free agent contracts that wildly benefit toronto

Well it doesn't matter if it's a first round exit are a Cup win, the Leafs (and other teams) face the same cap problems.

San Jose doesn't do that for one year of Kerfoot. Doubt if the the Hawks make that trade for 2 years of Nylander. Leafs probablly have to trade Nylander with no cap coming back.
And please 6D man NHL lineups don't work

Makes no sense for the hawks to want Nylander, a UFA in a year, while we are rebuilding. Also not in the position to be trading picks, especially 1st round picks

Sabres accept, and also these kinds of leafs ACGM are slightly depressing.

Buffalo and San Jose would do this. It'll take some GM wizardry and/or outright blackmail to get players to sign some of those low-ball contracts though!

Hawks decline pretty quickly. When the GM comes out and says rebuild...that doesn't mean trading away 1st round picks for temporary forwards

Sharks pass

Third these, sharks need a right shot RW to fill out top 6. Kerfoot doesn't fit that need.

Am I missing something here.
Vasilevskiy is certainly looking more mortal this year and Campbell is playing very well.
The Leafs totally outplayed the Bolts in game one, shall I say CRUSHED THE BOLTS.
Too many penalties and poor PK (and a goal in the last two seconds of the first period) sank the Leafs in game two but over all the play was close.
Game three could have ended in a loss but the Leafs came out flying and hung tough to win.
My son told me about 2/3 of the teams that win game 3 go on to win the series.
I am not the normal Sabre fan and secretly root for the Leafs to do well (except when they play the Sabres of course).
Why are all so many Leaf fans so pessimistic, this may be the best Leaf team to make the playoffs.
My eyes may not be as sharp as life long Leaf fans, IMO the Leafs are playing well against a very good team.

BTW, I would make that trade in a heart beat even if the pick is 32nd OA instead of 22nd as this post is presuming.

You're right, Leafs have a good team. And they are playing well and very well might be the Tampa, and others East teams to make it to the Cup final. This just might be their best Cup shot, and of next year the Leafs (and some other teams) won't be able to field such a good team (on paper) due to cap limitations. I just don't think the 22/23 team posted is practical at all....some of the trades and some of the signings, never mind a 21 man roster that isn't cap compliant.

Great, I completely agree with your entire post.
Hopefully Karmanos will be able to squeeze other NHL GM's and collect more draft picks.
It is too bad they had to settle for Boychuk and Butcher and missed out on the Ladd and Gostisbehere trades.
Getting 3 second round picks I guess would have been too much to ask, Armstrong did it, great moves.
