I enjoy reading your posts because I rarely disagree, I think we will diverge in the evaluation of the Monahan trade.

What do you consider "along with a small compensation"?
Using Andrew Ladd as an example, Arizona received 2021 2nd #60 and 2022 2nd #45 for taking on $4,000,000 actual salary and $5,500,000 cap hit.
Girgensons scored more goals, 10 in 56 v Sean's 8 in 65 and his AVV is $2,200,000 v $6,375,000 ($6,000,000 actual salary) it would appear two seconds would be the appropriate sweetener.
The Flames have $48,562,500 committed to 10 skater and 2 GK leaving another 8 to 11 players to sign including Tkachuk, Gaudreau and Mangiapane which you have included in your line up.
I would think nearly all NHL GM's will know how close the flames are to the ceiling will expect at least the compensation I suggested above.
BTW Ladd had 7 goals in 51 games last year only one less than Sean in 14 fewer games.
Taken in a vacuum, one may excuse this as an off season for Sean but he only had 10 goals in 50 games last year.
If the compensation was this years and next second round picks, I would think the Sabres would be inclined to make that deal.
Anything less would be a no.
