    I don't think the flames can afford to not do this, they need to resign Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

    I feel like If the pens traded Pettersson and Dumo we would trade for him. Maybe a 3rd and 5th?

    Blake Coleman got 4.9. Coleman had a 21 and 22 goal season.

    Mangiapane is elite defensively and was on pace for 26 goals last year over 82 games. And had 35 this year . I mean hopefully you guys can get him for 5.75 per but I don’t think he will be cheap

    Coleman was a UFA with 2 back to back cup rings on one of the most dominant shutdown lines in like 10 years.

    Mangiapane is an RFA, his comparable's are:
    Beauvillier - age 23, 28 points in 47 games (48 point pace)
    Bjorkstrand - age 26, 44 points in 56 games (64 point pace)
    Teravainen - age 24, 76 points in 82 games
    Buchnevich - age 26, 48 points, 54 games (73 point pace)

    Look at guys that scored 30+ or even 35 tho. That’s easily 6+ mill

    He only had 55 points though, even if you argue a goal is worth twice as much as an assist that's still significantly less than Buchnevich. Not to mention Treliving is the best RFA negotiator in the league. Im confident he won't get more than 5.5M

    An offersheet goes up to 6.1 so I think that’s around where he will come in. We will see

    You always bring up offer sheets but don't seem to understand them. Offer sheets are empty threats because they have to be enticing enough for the player to actually want to sign it. That includes the players preference with the current teams personal and direction, the state of the team offering it, the offers the current team is giving, etc. Then there is also the assets that the offering team has to give away, is a bottom 10 team really going to benefit from giving away a top 10 pick for a 26 year old 2nd line winger with 1 good season? And the max term they can give him is 5 years without increasing the OS return. Lastly there is the bad blood offer sheets caused, as us fans have all enjoyed recently the Habs vs Canes fiasco.

    Lets use New Jersey as an example, they are a team on the rise but still a few years out. Mangiapane would certainly be an upgrade to their top 6, especially if Zacha is being moved out then he can slide onto one of the top lines along with potentially Holtz. However Mangiapane does not make them a playoff team this summer, they may be a playoff team by next March but with the results this year there is certainly no guarantee they aren't just handing away a lottery pick in a very strong draft. Then there is only 5 years max of term so they are essentially trading 8+ years of a potential superstar for 2-way 2nd line winger that's a few years older than the current teams core. So from a Management perspective that is fairly unattractive.

    Now lets look at Mang in the same scenario. A team offer him a 30.5M deal that last 5 years. He doesn't know anyone on the team but Hamilton (where they played 10 games together, and Blackwood from Juniors. And the team is not exactly succeeding. Plus he current team is offering him a 33M deal for 6 years (hypothetically). So from a players perspective that also sounds fairly unattractive

    I enjoy reading your posts because I rarely disagree, I think we will diverge in the evaluation of the Monahan trade.
    @Ledge_And_Dairy
    @csick
    What do you consider "along with a small compensation"?
    Using Andrew Ladd as an example, Arizona received 2021 2nd #60 and 2022 2nd #45 for taking on $4,000,000 actual salary and $5,500,000 cap hit.
    Girgensons scored more goals, 10 in 56 v Sean's 8 in 65 and his AVV is $2,200,000 v $6,375,000 ($6,000,000 actual salary) it would appear two seconds would be the appropriate sweetener.
    The Flames have $48,562,500 committed to 10 skater and 2 GK leaving another 8 to 11 players to sign including Tkachuk, Gaudreau and Mangiapane which you have included in your line up.
    I would think nearly all NHL GM's will know how close the flames are to the ceiling will expect at least the compensation I suggested above.
    BTW Ladd had 7 goals in 51 games last year only one less than Sean in 14 fewer games.
    Taken in a vacuum, one may excuse this as an off season for Sean but he only had 10 goals in 50 games last year.
    If the compensation was this years and next second round picks, I would think the Sabres would be inclined to make that deal.
    Anything less would be a no.
