Devils organization and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald are still open to trading their 2nd overall selection in this years 1st Round of the NHL Draft. Fitzgerald had stated on locker room clean-out day in early May before the Draft Lottery and taken place that he would be open to moving their 1st rounder this season and Friedman is able to confirm that the Devils are still open to moving it. Friedman also reports that management is in the process forming up a list of players that they would consider moving that draft pick for and this process will continue over the next couple of weeks.


This worries me. I don't see the rush for this organization and why Fitz couldn't be patient for just one more season.
Unless it's trading down to #5 at most or swinging a trade for Oettinger or Swayman, chances are I'd be very disappointed with any trade involving #2.

We didn't sign Dougie to be rebuilding for two more years. We are far better than our standing suggests, and having the #2 overall pick is simply a luxury instead of neccesity as in years past.

If we have the ability to use the 2nd pick to get a great young player like Fiala, Tkachuk, Chychrun, etc. then you do it. We will happily make the pick on draft night, but we don't necessary need to draft a high potential player (who won't make a big impact for 2-3 more years) when we could get someone to help right now (and in the future).

I kinda agree with both of these

We don't have to trade the pick. Im fine with 2023-34 being the year we make the playoffs (Hughes, Gritsyuk, Mukhamudullin all make the team). If there is a trade where the Devils can acquire a starter potential goalie, then do it. If not, then keep the pick

That's why I said ask. If he waives there will be teams wanting him. Dubas probably let muzzin pick where to go if he does waive

Almost perfectly predicted the Gio contract. Got the term wrong as I thought it would be one year also said 900k vs 800k lul

Gonna be interesting to see what Keefe does as rn if we dont add and we just extend Sandin/Liligren we got

Meier and M.Tkachuk are the only players it makes sense to trade #2 for

Was thinking that but here is the problem

You trade Muzzin you trade away the one guy who has won a cup

And moving Sandin makes 0 sense as his progression this year was amazing and if he continues to develop at this rate he will be a top 4 D by the time Muzzin's deal is up.

Honestly I could see 2 things happen

1. Rielly moves to the right side and we see

Muzzin-Brodie
Giordano-Rielly
Sandin-Liligren

Or

2. They run 7Dman for the season
