To be fair, I'd give Murray a shot at the backup job, if he can beat upl. But, I want a sweetener, AND a reliable veteran goalie to play 40-50 games, in addition to Murray.

His save percentage was solidly higher than both Anderson and tokarski, who combined to go 27-24-7.

I like Murray to improve on his save percentage in Buffalo, a better team, especially defensively.

He helps us hit the cap floor without giving up anything

Well I’ve seen worse goaltending ideas,
but not many

If we had any interest in getting Murray,
even for nothing,
we could’ve claimed him off waivers last year

So there’s just no way this is happening

And thank goodness for that, bc it’s a bad idea
We should be looking at many other options before we’d consider this

I’d consider taking a 1st round pick to bury him though

Bad trade, very bad, no chance it's even being considered. Sabres are looking for clear 1A goalie, and they can spend same money that Murray is getting, in UFA, for way better player.

Anderson, 40 yrs old, 1 mil deal for 1 year, mentor role, good locker room presence.

Sabres are not going to eat Murray's contract to improve 0.09 sv% over Anderson.

And i don’t want either of them
The standard by which we need to judge the goaltender we want should absolutely not be Anderson
That would be crazy
We need to aim higher than Anderson,
higher than Murray

Btw…
Murray’s 2 years prior to this, his save% was under .900 as well
He’s not the answer

I mean after trading for him we have 19 million in cap space.

Our hockey ops knows him well.

His numbers will improve with the sabres defense

It's an idea to add a goalie without giving up anything

The Ottawa years are the Ottawa years. Many goalies numbers dip playing behind terrible teams. I believe he was injured too

Really, do you think a save pct of .009 is that much better?

I get what you are saying in that we are giving up nothing but then again you usually get what you pay for and in this case nothing.
It's going to be hard and the Sabres will have to overpay but you need a goalie that is reliable for at least 40-50 gms a year and throw in the fact that UPL has not shown to be able to stay injury free and I think this goaltending duo is a recipe to compete for Connor Bedard

Oh please. Tokarski and Anderson were both sub .900 and went 27-24-7 with Owen Power, jack quinn and jj peterka playing a combined 12 games.

All the kids get a year older and I brought in some defensive veterans and dropped all the dead weight and you think we get worse by 20+ points?

This isn't the hill I want to die on, but come on

It's about moving forward...Murray doesn't check that box. How much time did Anderson miss? How many points did that cost the Sabres. It might not have gotten us to the playoffs but again he wasn't reliable and Murray has played 47 games in 2 years...not worth the gamble to me. For 6.25 mil/yr go after one of the top UFA goalies and you still gave up nothing and get a forward move.

These are good points. I think the main thing is to get that vet goalie to play those 40-50 games. Then you can maybe take a shot at a low cost question mark, like- Anderson, Murray, samsonov, maybe even a georgiev. All I'm saying is there's not much risk to take a shot on somebody like this, for 20 - 30 games, and if it bombs, upl hopefully is kicking the door down to replace them.

No, he had two “down” years in PIT
And he’s had three down years in a town now
And four of his last five he’s had a save% of .907 or less
2 of those seasons with Ottawa, 2 with PIT

And 2 of those seasons he was under .900
1 of those was with PIT

Murray isn’t good, give it up
