No offseason moves you think? I really like the idea of you guys acquiring Giroux and Fiala. I'm loading up on Sens in fantasy next year.

Think this is more of a long term look than an actual next season roster. Nobody is really expecting two rookies on the 1st line and an all rookie 2nd pair.

Unfortunately we can’t afford Fiala longterm and Giroux be a nice stopgap for Kemell . This is a longterm outlook

Fair enough. I like how the Sens are trending. Is Thomson actually developing positively? I feel like I've heard nothing about him lately.

Claude Giroux has basically said that he wants to stay in Florida, And is willing to take less to do so. Fiala should have tons of suitors if Billy Guerin puts him on the market.

Lassi Thomson has been amazing this year. Really fluid skater, which has really helped him in transition breakouts and rush defending. His defensive reads and positional gap control looked great in the NHL, and at the AHL level he really found his WHL offensive touch again. I had him distinctly behind Bernard-Docker heading into this season, but now I think Lassi has really passed Bernard-Docker to become our top RHD prospect. I think he's got real top 4 upside playing with either Chabot or Sanderson long term. Would be pretty surprised if he's not on the 3rd pair with Nick Holden opening night.

Surely there's no way FLA could extend Giroux, right? Like how?

They'll 100% move out Hornqvist. But they'll need to move some other bodies out as well.

Holden has really taken a step back in the second half of the season, unless Brannstrom is traded I want him on the third pair over Holden.

It's interesting that his supposed drop in play lines up so well with Chabot's injury, leading to Holden playing almost exclusively with Nikita Zaitsev.

I look at his season, I see a guy who looked great playing with Zub, looked good playing with Thomson and Bernard-Docker and even made Josh Brown look serviceable. The fact that he really struggled while playing with one of the literal worst Dmen in the league does not concern me. They just need to move on from Z.

As far as Brannstrom is concerned, if Ottawa wants to dump MDZ and hang on for one more year, I'd be fine with that. Only thing is I really don't see anywhere he really fits. Assuming no injuries, the top 4 seems set in stone (2,23,72,85) which leaves 5, 24, 26, and 60 fighting over the bottom pair. In my opinion the sens are a much stronger defensive team with Holden vs Brannstrom (though Brannstrom is better than he's credited for defensively) and in my opinion there's just no way Ottawa goes into next season with Brannstrom as the vet bringing Jacob or Lassi into the league. Only way I see him in the lineup is if he goes buck wild with Chabot in camp and forces a top 4 RD job over Hamonic, or if neither Bernard-Docker or Thomson are ready out of camp. I love the little dude, and think he's gonna have a successful NHL career, but it really feels like the end of the line here unfortunately.
