Description

Trade Pettersson and everyone fits under the cap.

It’s sucks trading Pettersson. Him and Marino have been a really good pairing. Marino plays best paired with Pettersson. But you can’t pay three LHD 4M plus in the salary cap era. And Pettersson is the youngest(25) and cheapest(4M per).

Geno takes 1M less than Sid; 7.75M per 2 years. Then goes to play and retire in Russia.

Letang wants 7M for 5 years. Settles at 7.25M for 4 years. 29M total contract.

Rust takes 6.2M for 5 seasons. 31M total contract. That’s a huge contract for a 30 year old winger. Guentzel is making 6M per. Forsberg will probably get around 7.5M per. And he’s 3 years younger(27). If Rust wants 6.5M or more you have to let him walk.

Rakell was making 3.8M per. He takes 4M for 4 seasons. 16M total contract. I think he likes it in Pittsburgh.

MAF takes 1.5M for 2 seasons and retires in Pittsburgh. 3M total contract.

No way Kappy gets 3.2M per again. Even if he goes to arbitration. Kappy and Heinen are both RFA’s. Both get 2.25M per.

Resign Boyle and Angello to 800K per. League minimum.

Let E-Rod walk. Let DeSmith walk. Riikola will find a place where he gets a better opportunity. I would love to resign L.Domingues again but I think he’ll find a better opportunity elsewhere as well.

I would trade Dumo over Pettersson. It’s a bit more cap relief and I think keeping Pettersson would make Rakell more likely to stay since they are good friends.

I think Pettersson would be easier to trade. Even though 4.1M and 4.025M are basically the same thing. Dumo making just 975K more. But Pettersson the longer term. But Pettersson much younger. I think Dumo would bring back more in trade though.

And Pettersson paired with Marino has always had the best underlying numbers. More so than Marino paired with Matheson or Marino paired with Dumo.

Dumo just a PK superstar. I would love to keep all 3 but we can’t if we want to resign all 3 core players and Rakell. And especially with Friedman playing well and POJ ready.
