Jims Team But Not That Jim

Description
1. TBay is going to need LTIR space to retain players like Nick Paul; sending them Ferland gives relief and the price is a young D in Foote.
2. BUF has nothing on the RS to pair with Power and Dahlin. Myers has redeemed some of his value and returns for Weissbach (a long shot to make the NHL as a regular) and a 3rd.
3. JT goes back to the team who drafted him. VAN manages to extract Lundqvist, a '23 1st as well as Kakko whose value has depressed in NYR due to injury. VAN gives him a new start and a new deal.
4. VAN acquires the rights to Nic Roy from VGK for a '22 3rd and signs him for a reasonable deal.
5. Dickinson is sent to CBJ for a new start.
6. VAN signs Filip Forsberg with the allure of playing with Pettersson to a 7-year deal.
7. VAN resigns Brock Boeser with term but a smaller value ($6.5M AAV)
8. VAN signs Ilya Mikheyev for a couple years
9. VAN trades away Nils Hoglander to DET for a fresh start as the other signings make his role on the roster redundant.

People might question why keep Pearson? Well. He is still producing at a 2nd line level and he is part of the leadership core of this team.

On the whole, I believe this team is faster. Will move the puck better and will produce at a good clip AND has recovered draft capital, given themselves cap room for next season and the ability to resign key players like Horvat (UFA '23) and Pettersson (RFA '24) / Podkolzin (RFA '24).

Roast away.

Why would we give up Hoglander for a 3rd? Also think Roy would cost more than a 3rd

If you paid a pick to get Roy, he's going to be offer sheeted if the best you can give him is under $2M.

Also Kakko, a sharp D prospect, and a 1st for a one year rental, oof.

Columbus doesn’t need more depth forwards, we have too many forwards as it stands already.

Rangers can't afford Miller long term, So they're not giving that up for a one year rental. Filip Forsberg signs that with Nashville. On the open market he will want closer to $9,500,000 x 7 years pretty much guarantee you that. Doubtful that Buffalo would even want Tyler Myers back. Keep Hoglander we've no space for him.

Julian Briesbois would have to be utterly completely and totally ****ing stupid to make that trade.
The lightning have three right-hand shot defenseman with any NHL experience sign next year so they go and trade one for an ltir contract that is the dumbest possible thing I could think of .
There is absolutely no positive to have a guy on LTIR unless it is absolutely necessary what this trade would do would give the Canucks Foote so the lightning have the right to pay the uninsured portion of Ferlands contract that's asinine completely asinine.
You're explanation of the TB trade shows a complete lack of understanding how ltir works

Buffalo has Dahlin and Jokiharju on the RS. Vancouver has to pay to dump Myers cap but Buffalo would take him in

Sabres decline
Our top4 has been:
Samuelsson-Dahlin
Power-Jokiharju

I can’t say if management has been happy with it,
but the fans seem to be- they’ve looked good
So we aren’t exactly desperate for a RD anymore

Sorry, but Myers remains all yours

I think we’d consider the Hoglander deal though,
*if Detroit isn’t interested

If NYR were to make this trade- barring an unlikely move of one of their big contracts- to fit Miller next year they will have walked away from Strome and Copp. Sooo...technically, for the right to sign a player (albeit a pretty damn good one at the moment) to a long term monster contract- which pays him into his upper 30's- they will have parted with Strome, (2) 2nds (maybe one even becomes a 1st), Barron, Kakko, Lundqvist, and their 2023 1st. I don't put bad asset management past the NYR organization...but this is so monumentally poor- I don't think Drury could do this!

i don’t think you understand how LTIR works, having someone on LTIR doesn’t magically increase your cap space, it just makes the player’s cap hit non-existent. Adding Ferland does nothing because he makes league minimum anyways.
