This thread is explicitly for important news, deadlines, and information. Only Board members may post on this thread. There will be no commenting on this thread either. No trade talk will occur on this thread. This is designed to be a more condensed form of the Master Thread to make it easier to find important info GMs need to know.

SOME IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

April 27, 12 P.M. EST; the Roster freeze will occur. From then until May 1, 12 P.M. EST (or earlier if Vegas has made all of its roster selections before the deadline), NO trades or deals may occur. Please do not use the team threads for discussion. The Master Thread, Expansion Help Thread, and some other threads may be used for discussion and communication amongst all GMs

By April 29, 12 P.M. EST, ALL players you have signed on your roster need to be moved up onto your visible roster. This means all the players you currently have assigned to junior or minors need to be brought up onto the visible active roster. We will be ignoring the salary cap during the expansion draft and offseason so do not worry about the fact you're well over the salary cap.

Also on April 29 at 12 P.M. EST, everyone's expansion protection lists are due. These are to be posted on the "Official Expansion Protection List Thread". Remember that you can either go for a 7-3-1 format or 8-1 format. When the thread is posted, once you post your teams expansion protection list on that thread you WILL NOT be allowed to change your list. ONLY expansion protection lists are to be posted on this thread (no commenting on others posts please). That means you cannot edit your post on that thread even if you accidentally posted the wrong player to be protected. THERE WILL NOT BE EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Please be thourough and careful when posting your expansion protection lists to ensure that no errors are made.

Vegas will begin making its expansion selections on the 29th at noon EST. They will have until May 1 at noon EST to make their selections. Vegas will post their selections by quoting each team's protection list post in the "Official Expansion Protection List Thread" and commenting with their Expansion Selection. Remember that Vegas is the only GM that is allowed to comment in the "Official Expansion Protection List Thread". The rest of us are ONLY allowed to post our expansion protection list and exposure requirement list (and editing these posts is NOT allowed).

Once all of this is over, the roster freeze will be lifted and everything will return to normal.

ATTENTION ALL GMS
There have been multiple cases of improperly submitted expansion protection lists. The board has decided to take action on this matter. Here is what will happen.

Here's what will be done for improperly submitted lists:

You have one chance to edit your post to correct any errors.
We will inform teams that they have errors on their team thread(s).
Once those GM's make the necessary corrections, we will quote their post in the discussion thread.
No further changes will be permitted.
Teams that are not compliant by the deadline for submission of protected lists (Saturday, 12pm EST), will have their lists corrected by the BOG.

1. ALL NMC PLAYERS MUST BE PROTECTED.*
2. YOU MUST EXPOSE THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF QUALIFIED PLAYERS.
3. WE CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. ASK FOR HELP IF YOU ARE NOT SURE!
*(Bobby Ryan is the ONLY exception due to the terms of his contract.)

Errors will be corrected by the BOG according to a standard procedure:
1. We will move the incorrect player where he belongs.
2. We will expose the qualified player(s) that is/are listed last in order in your protected list.

Example1 : You have an error in the players that meet exposure requirements.
- We will remove the player that doesn't meet the requirements.
- We will add the first unprotected player that qualifies in his place.
- If you have no qualified, unprotected players. We will add the last protected player in his place.

Example2: You failed to protect a player with an NMC.
- We will add that player to your protected list.
- We will expose the last protected player listed at that position that does not have an NMC.

Regardless of the error, the player you list last, that qualifies to correct the error, will be used.
We don't care even if it is Crosby or McDavid. So SUBMIT YOUR LIST CAREFULLY and ASK FOR HELP IF YOU ARE UNSURE.


THIS LAST POINT CANNOT BE EMPHASIZED ENOUGH. IF YOU ARE UNSURE AT ALL PLEASE ASK!!!!!

The time to submit expansion lists is now over. if you have not submitted a list, the Board will base it off a list you left in your team description or vote if you left no list. Do not throw a random list into the thread on a fly. If you arrive late, please let the board know so we can help make the list with you to expedite the process. Please refer to the list of dates above for any remaining deadlines. Thanks.

Roster Freeze is now lifted. You may now negotiate and complete trades.
Important: Remember to trade the player chosen from your team in the expansion draft to Vegas on your rosters.

Can someone please explain to me how this game actually works? Like who determines the outcome/ who wins? Is there some sort of simulation done to actually see who put together the best team?

Nobody WINS this game. We play where different people pretend to be GMs and we can make trades with each other, instead of just making trade ideas ... we make trades with each other, so the other GM has to agree.

NEW RULES REGARDING UNSIGNED DRAFT PICKS OF YOUR TEAM, KHL FREE AGENTS, ETC.
Please read through each rule to make sure you understand how it works. If you have any questions please ask on the Board of General Managers Official Thread (here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/57753/27)

1. For players who go unsigned or otherwise return to the NHL as a free agent, the team that last held his rights will be considered to have "Home" advantage in free agent negotiations.
2. Players who return to the NHL while still considered property of an NHL team, they may either be signed or released to free agency by the team owning that player's rights.
3. Players who have gone undrafted and later signed an ELC or SPC, will be considered free agents, as no team ever held their rights.
4. Players whose rights belong to your team, but have never signed an ELC (in real life), may be signed to an ELC at the GM's discretion (to a standard 3 year contract @ $900,250). Warning: This is no guarantee a player will ever play in the real NHL, so do your research and deal with these players accordingly.

How to manage a player's rights:
For game purposes and ease of tracking, if you acquire a player's rights, they can be represented with a Created Player on your roster.
Create a player as normal, with an 8 year contract and $800k salary, but add "(R) " before entering the player's last name (without quotations and R = Rights).
This will allow you to stash the player on your minor league roster instead of keeping track of his rights with a note in your team's description.
The player will display as "(R) Tinordi, Jarred".
For players that your IRL team already owns, this is not necessary. This is only for rights you acquire through trade.

New Trolling Zero Tolerance Policy
Attention GM's

There has been an increased amount of trolling and otherwise inappropriate commenting taking place recently.
The goal of our game is to foster an inclusive community, where all members are able to participate equally in a respectful environment.

Negotiation and debates over players and values of assets are to be expected, as are differences of opinion.
You are expected to be able to participate in discussions without denigrating other GM's.

Communication is a necessary component of the game and of being a GM.
Attacks on other GM's, spam posting, and outright arguments with other members, have a negative impact on our abilities to communicate effectively with each other and will not be tolerated.

If there is an issue, address the issue, not the other parties involved.
If there is an issue which cannot be addressed in a rational manner by the parties involved, notify the BOG.

After you have notified or reported an issue, do not continue to participate. Wait for appropriate action to be taken and do not involve yourself any further. We would prefer all of our GM's to stay in permanent control of their team and promote stability for the game, but if you are banned, or otherwise found unable to fully manage your team for an extended period of time, you will be replaced.

Stop and think before you post. Show respect for other members. Keep everything friendly and hockey related.

New GM Must-Know Info
This applies to only new GMs to the game. This is the list of all the basic need to know info to start your team once you've been appointed to a Head GM position.

1. You will inherit all of the previous trades, deals, and signings the previous GM made. When you make the Armchair GM team for this game, please set the roster for the 2017-18 Season, Salary Cap of $76 million, and name the team "GM Game - Team. Then, just copy over all the exact same trades that the previous GM made onto your AGM team you made. The best way to check to make sure you've inherited the exact same team is to make sure the salary cap space matches from roster to roster.
2. In the description of the team, put all of the 2017 draft picks you have (since for a 2017-18 roster the 2017 picks do not show up where the other picks do). Feel free to leave a "trade block" in your description as well, stating who you're willing to trade and what you're looking for in return.
3. Once you've got all that done, publish the AGM team and then post the link to your team in the "Messages for MODs thread" here in this game. This allows the Mods to quickly and easily identify and sticky your roster so it can be brought to the game.
4. We ask that GMs Are active at least once a week. After one full week of complete inactivity will you be demoted to assistant GM of the team. After 5 days of inactivity you will be notified on your team page that you have 48 hours to return before being demoted to assistant of your team.
5. Important info that all GMs need to see is posted in the "Important News and Info thread" whenever it occurs.
6. Trades just need to be confirmed by BOTH GMs before they are made official in the trade thread (here: https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/54637/16).
7. Infrequent activity on the game, and not responding to offers in a reasonable amount of time can have a negative affect on your reputation as a GM, the ability to make good trades, and the overall flow and fun of the game. Please be mindful of this. Even if you don't like a trade offer, just respond no thanks, or make a counter offer.
8. If you have any other questions, issues with other GMs, or know you will be inactive for an extended period of time, just let the Board of Gms know at the "Board of General Managers Official Thread" and we'll sort them out for you.

SIGNING YOUR DRAFTED PLAYERS

To make it easy to view and track your newly drafted players, we will use the following system:

1. When you have drafted a player, you will use the "Create Player" option on your GM Team.
a) Enter the player's first name
b) Enter (D) and the player's last name. This will result in the player appears as "(D) Lastname, Firstname". (D = Drafted)
c) Enter the player's salary as follows:

1st Round: $925k
2nd Round: $875k
3rd Round: $825k
4th Round: $775k
5th Round $750k
6th Round $725k
7th Round $700k

This gives them a temporary value and also identifies which round the player was drafted in.

2. Once the player is added to the Capfriendly database, you will be able to replace the created player with the actual player, without the (D) tag, and with the actual contract value for players who have signed their ELC's.
