Description
VGK trade: Clearing a bunch of cap out for a pick upgrade and a third next year. Not sure if they like that deal enough to do it but I think it’s more or less fair.

BUF trade: I misspelled Sabres. I also think this trade is more or less fair considering how late the Florida pick is likely to end up being. I also have a feeling Wright will be going to Buffalo this year and mits will become expendable.

PIT trade: About as fair as it can get.

WPG trade: the get me the hell outta here special from Toews.

I’m sure Vlasic will be pickling down in the AHL next season but I’ve liked his game enough that I have him on the roster for next year. Obviously the D core could change drastically.

As a fan that would be cool. They don’t even have to win a lot.

My concern is that I thought they'd score a lot this year too and they haven't. Maybe with Dadonov and Kappy and if Dach, Mittelstadt and Kurashev take some steps forward we'll be better

With a real coach, potentially. Kappy and Dadonov are more deadline bait than anything else though.

For sure, Dadonov especially. Kapanen is still young-ish so maybe he could stick around. But yeah, DeBrincat, Seth Jones, Reichel and maybe Caleb and Strome are the only guys I see being here when we're good again. Maybe Raddysh creeps in there if he keeps this up

i just dont see buffalo trading a 1st away for Murphy. Sabers are trying to deepen prospect pool that only makes it worse for short term gain with 30ish player.

Winnipeg doesn't have the cap for jonathan Toews even at 50% they'd need to move out one of Scheifele or wheeler to afford that luxury.

It's not bad, but I think Buffalo just goes and signs a 3RD, and drafts a couple RD. Think Buffalo found there 1st pair.

I mean even if DK sticks, his comments last night are what you're doing. Bring in some forward vets. I'd even look at Zucker at bit depending on what else we can get with him. If nothing else he might also be flipped.

But as a side. We need to bring Laffy back. Great energy guy. Give him a carpy contract. 3 years $1M per.

I would understand if it was vegas or your own pick that I was asking for… but this is floridas pick and it’s possible it’s number 32 overall when all is said and done. If we are playing the numbers game the player drafted with that pick isn’t likely to help you for a minimum of 3-4 years if at all. Murphy is a good veteran guy, and an underrated leader. Obviously I’m biased to this trade but I would say the developmental impact of Murphy to play top pair minutes with Dahlin or Power is worth the first round pick alone… I mean look at what Florida paid for Ben Chariot!

I like Laffy but is he worth giving term to? Is he worth giving a roster spot to on a rebuilding team? Unless they can flip him the answers are no.

I respectfully disagree. The difference between $1M and an ELC is worth the extra ~$100k just to know what you have a true solid 4th line energy guy that can disrupt and cause chaos. He's got a smaller sample size and certainly his ceiling isn't as high, but he has shades to Hagel's trajectory more likely though Carpenter. Now that he's learning the system and feeling comfortable, he's getting assists and allowing other guys to score.

I guess I'd also say...are we really trying to develop 4th liners from our prospect pool? That's not really our goal, right? We need to develop top 6 talent and getting players that fill roles can help others learn and make mistakes on the job. Having a Lafferty stick up for you or hustle back might be helpful to the other prospects being developed. Overall, I understand what you're saying. I just think Lafferty is the exception to the rule. I'd keep him over say even Kubalik, Khaira, Borgstrom, Katchouk

Won't be surprised if King is kept around. He's kind of a perfect rebuild coach. Don't plan on winning any games with him but he'll do what he has to do to develop the players the right way. Not saying I want this to happen, but I think it will

My question with King is what kind of system he plans on implementing. That’s important in a rebuild because all of the guys are going to be learning and living it well before we are competitive. I’m under the impression that the system they are playing now is lightly modified from JC’s system and TBH I’ve seen enough of that. If DK is going to implement the same or a similar system then that’s a thumbs down from me.

I don't know why you think buffalo will not be thinking 3- 4 years in the future. the team probably isn't making playoffs next year and will be even longer before they can contend for cup. I get that you would want a 1st for him and chariot is a fair comparison. the biggest difference is cup contenders don't care about picks as much and non contenders.
