I'd rather give Forsberg $9M instead of Malkin, even with Forsberg getting max term. I don't see that Malkin contract working out too well.
Kane's not a person you want on the team you cheer for, but if he's not a disruption in the locker room or an off-ice distraction, you can't argue with the kind of production he can provide at that cap hit.
Pass on Lazar. Glass, Novak or McCarron can have that 4C spot for less money.
No thanks on either trade. Not enough incentive for NSH to get stuck with Mrázek's contract. They've already got next year's backup waiting in the wings, in Ingram.
Even if one was confident Petry could fully rebound, and be a positive contributor for the rest of his contract NSH just doesn't need him. NSH was confident they could move on from Ellis, and Fabbro and Carrier have both proved they're more than capable of holding down top four spots. I don't see why they'd give up more than they got for Ellis, just to bring in an older, equally expensive, lesser player a year later.
