It's a tough situation when emotional considerations are shown to affect a player's production. It's totally understandable that teams are hesitant. I do not know who will get him, but unlike a lot of fans I don't have a bias against players of a certain age. Some teams will overlook Petry but at the end of next season one lucky GM who got him cheap will look like a mastermind.
I have followed the Petry saga closer than most Sabre fans.
He certainly had a rough start having only two assists until Jan 12th.
Since then in his last 35 games he has 4 goals and 18 assists and 8 assists in his last 9 games.
I was not aware of his demons that affected his play, but he seems to be dealing with them now.
IMO too many Sabre ACGM's only casually watch the Sabres play and never watch another games not involving the Sabres.
When they do watch the Sabres, they only observe what the Sabres do, and not the other teams.
This has been a difficult season to be a Habs fan, injuries, players lost to free agency, players underperforming and really bad moves by Bergevin.
Hughes has been magnificent, he has received far more value than I ever expected in ALL of his trades.
IMO Hughes will hold out for maximum value and a team that just missed the playoffs, lacking an offensive RHD will pay Kent's price.
If Ben Chiarot can return a first, fourth and a decent prospect, I predict Petry will receive the same if not more, if Kent offers 50% retention.
