Worst Case Scenario

Description
IMO, this is worst case scenario for the jets franchise this off-season. Dubois goes to management and doesn’t want to re-sign in Winnipeg, this likely leads to a major shakeup and the jets heading towards a rebuild. They already have some apparent issues with scheifele who is likely traded. You simply cannot trade two top 6 C’s and expect to compete anytime soon where there is no replacement.

This scenario would likely lead to a lot more people getting traded, Dillon, Schmidt, Hellebuyck and others.

As for the actual trades:

MTL - I think Dubois to Montreal would be a no brainer if he didn’t want to resign in Winnipeg. I think the obvious candidate coming back is Dvorak due to cap reasons. Jets likely would target a prospect like Barron but with MTL just acquiring him I’m not quite sure they’d want to move him. If the habs end up with a pick between 3-5 I’d be curious to know if they’d be okay with moving it with dvorak. I’m sure the jets, as well as jets fans would like to get the 1st overall pick for Dubois but that pick almost never gets traded.

CAR - I’m curious to see how CAR does in the playoffs, I feel like if they underperform there might be a bit of change. I feel like adding scheifele to their forward core would be a great addition. They’re giving up jarvis for him, but upgrading to a PPG player to help them win now. Jets take back gardiner for salary purposes. Rod the bod is almost the perfect coach to help scheifele become the player he was in the 17-18 playoffs.

Couldn’t decide on a team I thought would be the best fit for Dillon so just randomly chose the isles. Jets probably look to recoup the 2 2nds they moved for him, but if they have to they could compromise on a pick/prospect combination.

habs are not going to be moving their first this year. and certainly not adding to it to get Dubois. Even its a 3rd overall. If Dubois doesnt want to sign habs have plenty of other packages they can offer if they want to go after him. I dont see dubois as an option though if thats the cost.

Okay good to know, I wasn’t sure if they’d have interest in moving it if it wasn’t a lottery pick. Maybe CGY 1st and FLA 23 1st and a prospect for Dubois? Something built around that potentially as they’re both late 1sts.

We might DO 1st overall vs Dubois, but to add Dvorak and a pick is a tad overhyped to us actually even knowing that Dubois is a beast two way center.

Ya habs have an obvious need down the middle and even if they end up with the 1OA and draft Wright they could still use Dubois. The main thing is will the jets be willing to pull the trigger on a Dubois trade by the draft, or will they still be in the middle of that negotiation. I think it more likely if he got dealt it would be later in the summer, similar to when they acquired him.

Something like florida's 1st, mtl 2nd Dvorak and a prospect might be a package habs would propose.

Interesting. Yeah it’s more likely he’s dealt later in the summer. But I feel like there will be teams interested at the draft.

Idk if the isles need Dillon, if they do I think this deal would be okay for both sides. I’m a huge Dillon fan but I just feel like he’s gone after this year.

I was more so saying that if the 1st isn’t #1 or 2 they could do a deal with Dvorak and a 2nd. If it’s first overall i wouldn’t trade it 1 for 1 for Dubois if i was MTL.

There for sure will be. It depends on what the sentiment is around those negotiation by the draft, if your looking at acquiring Dubois but feel that the the jets and him are far apart then it pays to wait, the Price will be highest at the draft. Either way this is one of many storylines thats going to make for a very interesting offseason for a lot of teams.

They need help at LD, for sure, which is why it works for me. I think the fanbase prefers guys like Mike Reilly or Carson Soucy, but if the acquisition cost for those guys gets too much, I could see this being a fine fallback plan. Dillon as a stay-at-home guy paired with Dobson would be a solid 2nd pair next season.

Jets are going to be the focal point of the off-season. They have the potential Dubois issues, which I personally don’t see being a problem if they pay him. They have the scheifele drama going, and they have clear leadership issues. Going to be fun.

Dillon has been very good IMO. The issue is when your idiot coach decides to pair him with Logan Stanley and attach him to an anchor lol. Him and pionk have been great together. I think him and Dobson would just be an upgraded version of him and pionk.

Montreal is the last team I’d look to be trading a big value player like Dubois to. Other than the 2022 1st, the Habs just don’t have the pieces to entice.
Dvorak, Armia, etc… are not interesting at all.
I like the CAR idea but i have zero interest in Gardner. Switch him with a player/prospect that is of help.

Yeah MTL is maybe not the best destination. Just the easiest choice. Maybe CGY could be an option? They don’t have that many assets either. Idk who would be a better fit for PLD.

Also I only took gardiner for cap reasons. Carolina fans say big no to jarvis so I guess that deal just doesn’t work at all.

I think Habs would give Dvorak + MTL 2022 1st, if it's not first overall.

If you want MTL to add another 1st, switch Dvorak for Armia or Hoffman. I know they're cap dump.

Okay good to know. Other habs fans have said nope to the deal if the pick even is between 3-5.

When I proposed the other deal, I was more so thinking about it being like Dvorak + CGY 2022 1st + FLA 2023 1st. Not MTL’s top 5 pick. But I would do their pick + Armia + FLA 2023 1st

He is actually a terrible 2 way player. He was in the 17th percentile defensively on the latest jfresh card.

I personally dont think your ideas are far fetched from a Habs perspective. Having said that i dont know that the Habs have the cap space to satisfy PLDs expected salary demands, without unloading 8M$ in the deal. Habs pick should be a top 2 or 3 pick, and I personally wouldnt do it , especially considering the stage of the rebuild the Habs are at.

I'd give that Dubois trade a lot of consideration, if he wants much more than $7M per year I'm just not sure he's worth keeping around to be honest, just don't know if I see a guy who's gonna be worth $8M per year. I know there's guys who make that much who really aren't worth it like RyJo and Wheeler but that doesn't mean the Jets should go down that same road.

I don't see the Jets trading Dubois since they need centers. And I don't see the Habs trading 2x 1st (Dvorak was obtained for a 1st pick) for Dubois. Especially if the 2022 1st pick is a 1OA. If Dubois does not want to sign with the Jets, then maybe they could trade his rights for Dvorak and the 2022 Calgary 1st (owned by MTL)

I wouldnt touch Dubois with a 10 ft pole if im the Habs. If you need another Center so bad then you draft one in either 2022 or 2023 or you trade for Barzal. Dubois is a 2nd line center since he spends half the game in the penalty box. Cant trust a guy with 100pims to be your 1C

Oh not to mention he’s also #1 in the league for penalties drawn. The guy is a prick on the ice, and that’s why I love the guy. He’s hard to play against and plays with passion. He draws more than he takes, and he’s a brute to play against. It’s likely jets resign him anyways.
