I think the Rangers would have to take it, but I'm dumbfounded as to why Montreal would offer that.

It doesn't make sense for the Habs. Lafrenière hasn't lived up to his draft pedigree yet and therefore is worth significantly less than a #1OA pick.

Habs should really keep their pick. Even if it ends up being 3rd overall. Other than Mr. Wright, I do think that Laffy has a higher ceiling than everyone else in the draft, but he is also much more risky IMO than Cooley, Savioe, Slafkovsky.

I have a feeling this doesn't happen simply because the draft is in Montreal. Too great a story to have the first overall pick in your own barn. Obviously im not psychic so it could happen just my guess on it.

Personally, as a fan, I don't want to see this deal made.

If indeed Habs land the first overall, Wright is the pick to make. To build a successful franchise, you have to address the C position. C's and D's are the important pieces, then you look at wings.

I want to ask you two questions:

1. Why would the Rangers be inclined to give up on Lafrenière so quickly?
2. Would you do this if the kid at 1 OA at this year's draft was named Lafrenière and the guy in New York was named Wright?

Are the Habs in such a hurry that they'd do this? Is it the novelty of Alex being a Quebecois? Positionally, obviously this makes sense for us. I have no reason to believe we wouldn't do this if it were on the table. I just don't know why the Habs would. Without even comparing their talent. I haven't followed Wright enough to know.

The Lafreniere slander is crazy. Straight cope. More even strength goals than anyone on the Habs this season and all but Anderson last season, despite playing 13 mins a night.

MTL not trading 1st OA in 2022 for a bust

The "habs must trade for a guys because he is french " trope is one of the laziest and inaccurate to what has happened historically that permeates this site. The habs in almost 20 years have done 2 trades that netted them more regular francophone players in the lineup than what was sent away. Drouin (widely seen as one of the habs worst trades of the decade) and Tanguay ( over a decade ago)

Lafreniere c'est une question de temps avant qu'il n'explose. Je pense qu'il a beaucoup plus de talent que Wright. Tout le monde dit toujours de repêcher le meilleur talent avant tout. J'avoue que c'est risqué mais en même voir Kent Hughes s'avancer en premier et annoncer au partisans devant lui qu'il est aller chercher Alexis Lafrenière serait juste malade. Je n'ai vraiment pas abandonné dans le cas de Laffy. Regardez juste Jack Hughes pour le fun.

Must be sad to have no other professional sports to watch and have to watch a team where someone else's "bust" is better than everyone on your team.

Personally, I don't think Laf is a bust, sure it might be taking him longer than expected to produce but that isn't necessarily a bad thing either. IMO sometimes you have to go through these seasons at the beginning of your career to succeed later. It is a learning curve and it is different for everyone. Let him develop at his own pace, he will get there.

No point in this. You can throw a Max offer at Filip Forsberg and get a significantly better player than Laffy.

NYR say no as Laf is nhl relevant now and NYR is in compete now. MTL is the team that needs the futures and a few years of development
