In addition to all the off-ice reasons he's a toxic asset, Logan Mailloux is a 19 year old player who's managed to play 16 total games in the OHL. Why would Anaheim move Max Comtois(at his lowest value, by the way) for Mailloux?

id probably do that Mailloux screwed up everyone knows that but he's a good hockey player

Mailloux was suspended the first half of the season, and injured 12 games after his comeback. He got 9 points in those 12 games.

Also, you mentioned Mailloux was a toxic asset for many off-ice reasons. I know only one (the picture incident). Could you name the others please?

I wasn't clear enough with that - by "reasons" I just meant *everything* that's going to come with him - the reporters hounding the GM about accountability, the fans who will be upset by his acquisition, the sponsors who may all of a sudden turn their attention (and $$) elsewhere to avoid being associated with it, all the things you could imagine in this kind of situation.

And while I understand he produced during the short time he was active, I still think the point remains - he's *barely* played in the OHL, so you're really just dreaming on what you think he's going to turn into instead of actually having significant amounts of game tape to point out. I can't see Anaheim moving on from Max Comtois for a guy like that.

I think Mailloux for Comtois is bad for Anaheim. But i hate when people say Mailloux is worth nothing. I think he's gonna be a good top 4 RHD. He did 1 mistake off-ice, taking a picture of an adult woman giving him head, and show it to his teammates. Evander Kane did alot worse and is still playing in the NHL with McDavid. People should start forgiving Mailloux, he paid his dues.

If you want to get completely cynical for a moment: what's the difference between where those two dudes were in their careers vs. where Mailloux is?

But for my personal take, the whole situation is just a bummer. His original apology seemed very PR-ey when he gave it, but when he came out and said "Please don't draft me, I'm going to try and get my life in order and join the NHL when I've proven I'm mature enough to" I thought he had turned a corner and was going to truly grow from this. Then for whatever reason, Montreal still went ahead and drafted him - making this all feel weirdly cynical and way more complicated than it should be. I truly hope that Logan learns from this and becomes a better person, and I also hope that other players who might've done similar things in their past get scared straight - it just would've been a whole lot easier of a sales job on that if Montreal didn't make him a first round pick in the middle of it.
