Marner's not moving, bud.

I understand your reasoning behind this, but if you want any real shot at it, you'd have to add a premium prospect heading to Toronto, which the Habs have very few of (we have some pretty good ones, though) and aren't ready to trade away. I'm not against trading Anderson, btw. I think he's much better than what many capfriendly fanboys say and he can fetch a pretty nice return from a contender (picks and prospects, not an established elite player).

We're in a full blown rebuild or whatever Habs brass are calling it. This team isn't a Marner away from being competitive. Patience and drafting/developing is the only way to make it through.

It’d have to be insane, the leafs are competing right now and want to stay competing. Looking at just points production they’d have to replace over 300 points over the 3 years in Marner’s contract. He’s a 100 point player and there’d be a bidding war (if he were for sale).

Futures are not useful because it’d mess up the competition window with Matthews’ current contract.

Anderson has an awful contract, is a massive defensive liability and has literally never hit 50 points once in his career. He will be 28 next month.
You're gonna have to do bettet than that

Anderson is garbage. Literally a liability on the ice. Just because you can't recognise that doesn't change the fact he has negative value on that contract.

The Habs literally do not have anything the leafs would accept for mitch. Suzuki, Caulfield and all of your picks (unprotected) wouldn't be enough to get it done.

What a ridiculous comment, as if the Leafs would pass on Zuke or Caufield straight up for Marner! Adding either of our next 2 1sts would also guarantee the Leafs don't pass!

My guy this is a site for discussion. If you're going to say something ridiculous, be ready for people to call you out on it. If that isn't what you want out of this perhaps the reddit cesspool would be more to your taste

Normally, you’re takes are fairly reasonable and I can agree with a few of them.

But to think Suzuki alone is enough for Marner is slightly ridiculous. And saying Marner for Caufield is fair is absolutely delusional.

You're right I was irked and it was ridiculous but so was him saying that Zuke + Caufield + all our 1sts unprotected would not be enough as well. I like Marner he is a great player and the Leafs shouldn't move him at all just like the Habs shouldn't move Zuke or Caufield.

Yeah I know, I said that in frustration. On the other hand they would pass up both or both plus all our 1sts either like the other guy said

lol, of course you, the person who wouldnt trade broken down gallagher and over paid Anderson for marner think that the leafs would even remotly entertain anything the habs have straight up for marner

one or the other, yes.

but moving two players for one player doesn’t make sense for a team like the Habs.

I think it takes a mix of people to build a winning team. It also takes a lot of talent and leadership guys pulling in the same direction. I think the later part here is where a Marner would help the Habs. Focusing on speed and skill is hard to do when you're playing Hoffman and Anderson on your wing of your top line. Marner would obviously complete the line of Suzuki and Caufield and would mix well with those guys in terms of creativity, anticipation and awareness.

In terms of the cost... I think you can get about 2 x 1st round picks for Anderson in the offseason, so we're still talking about 4 x 1st round picks for Marner, which is a boatload. Not to mention the Leafs who often have cap issues will get about 5.5 million in cap-relief which is not insignificant and would typically cost at minimum a 2nd round pick per year.

I think there is merit here, but only if the Leafs agree that their current model needs to be tweaked to lose some skill for some... forgive me I can't help myself... pugnacity.

We're in a full blown rebuild or whatever Habs brass are calling it. This team isn't a Marner away from being competitive. Patience and drafting/developing is the only way to make it through.
