is he worth that? maybe not. but the fact he was picked up on waiver does not affect his value.

I wouldn’t mind that trade for Petry, but Montreal would be dumb to retain that much for that long.

Pitlick's been passed through waivers twice this season, which means Ottawa has definitely had a shot at them and passed. I'd be shocked if putting up okay numbers for half a year on a team going nowhere is going to be enough to convince the Sens to bail on a first rounder from a couple years ago *plus* a 3rd. You probably max out at getting a 4/5 for him if you trade him in the summer.

i guess you mean once? but yeah i agree thats not his value at all. im just saying him going through waiver doesnt affect his value. (usually clearing waiver makes you more valuable actually, but he didnt clear so thats not the point).

he was actually waived in October by Nashville and claimed by Minnesota - I would assume that Ottawa would've had priority over the Wild based on last season's record and would've passed on Pitlick then.

when Minnesota waived him in January and the Habs picked him up, Montreal might've had top priority - I think that was when they were deep in that Ducharme tailspin.

the double waiver claim rem pitlick for the sens best RD prospect is a massive massive reach. okay player but shooting 22% is a pretty big stat inflator, hes played well for the habs but hes going to have to do it for more than half of 1 season to merit that kind of return

Because the Savard contract is just as bad if not worse than the Mrazek one. IHoll is a better defenceman than Savard. Allen is a good backup but he isn’t worth Holl + 2 borderline NHL ready prospects and a 3rd, not even close (assuming that, best case for Montreal, Mrazek for Savard is 1 for 1 in terms of value)

Holl is better than Savard now? I’d say they’re a wash. However, Allen is better than Mrazek and he saves the Leafs a million plus a year of term. About the only thing I can see is making that pick lower or changing out another prospect for Abruzzese

Holl is a liability only about 10% of the time. Savard statistically makes his team worse and is a general all around liability a much, much higher percent of the time. Not to mention Holl makes nearly half as much and is younger.

Again; let’s say Mrazek and Savard equal out for the sake of easing things up (even tho I wouldn’t even trade Mrazek for Savard because of that extra year and harder buyout). That leaves whatever you value Holl at, 2 NHL ready prospects; and a 3rd even in a world where Holl has literally 0 value (which he absolutely wouldn’t considering equivalent d men consensually get around a 2nd round pick at the deadline), then that’s still paying up a 3rd and 2 solid prospects for a backup goalie which is an extremely hefty ask

Savard’s tenure in Columbus was a different story. He was a steady stay at home defenceman who led the entire league in plus minus. His tenure here has been a disaster without a doubt but he’s part of a very bad team and he has nothing to offer a rebuilding team.

The evaluation of your prospects doesn’t match your own assessment of them. Neither one of them is a top prospect in the Leafs system. Around 2/3s of 3rd rounders never see 100 nhl games. Have a look at Jake Allen’s playoff numbers in St. Louis… that alone is enough to make that deal

You kinda lost me with what you’re saying there. Are you saying Savard is more valuable than Mrazek because of the past? Mrazek was a really good goalie last season, and I could easily point to that and say again they are equal in value (not to mention prime Savard was quite some time ago). You forgot to mention Holl, and Allen is not worth a 3rd rounder + 2 prospects who project as bottom 6ers (they’ve already played in the NHL at a young age, and both are talented offensively and Steeves is reliable in his own end as well). Allen is a type of goalie that can easily be found in FA, no team will pay up 4 assets for him when they could easily find an equal goalie in free agency

I’m saying he’s worth Holl straight up because he’s had a better career. And Allen is better than Mrazek and always has been. Neither of those prospects are even top 100 in the league

Ok, sure, Savard has had a better career. Leafs then counter with Tavares for Suzuki + Caufield, as both of these two have had very short careers so far and have yet to prove themselves as elite players, whereas Tavares has been an elite player throughout his career

Of course it affects his value, and although each waiver claim is affected differently doesn't negate that they are affected.

You need the nuances of waiver wire pickup valuations explained? Do you realize how many variables are involved in that? Yes a player can alter his value after being picked up, but so can every player change their value game to game. It's like draft position, it has value, but it's less relevant the further from the draft day, but still relevant for some time.

Now, are you purposely arguing the minutia to distract from the point that the waiver wire pickup isn't worth the pieces in the trade scenario?

well im defenitly not arguing that he is worth that package, he is not imo. all im saying is the fact someone was picked up on waiver at some point is a bit relevant qhen you want to assess is tade value 6-9 months later, because other variables will be more important by that time. im not really sure qhat qe are arguing about, i just wanted to say that it was a bad argument to use in the first place '' he was on waiver a while ago, could have had him for free at starts of season blablabla''. what relevant is what he has done since, not that he was in waiver. but yeah, he is not worth tgat package at atll imo. maybe.one day!
