Still more realistic than Anderson vs White
They're literally almost identical in terms of on-ice value. Both had a 47 point pace season in 18-19 and haven't been as good since. White was projected for 0.4 GSVA this year by Dom's model and is on pace for 0.1, while Anderson was projected for 0.2 and on pace for -0.1. Anderson's on a 36-point pace, White's on a 34-point pace. Anderson's a better goal scorer, White's a better playmaker. Anderson is a faster skater and more physical, White is better defensively and plays centre. White beats Anderson in CF% 55.78-46.56 and xGF% 52.17-46.33, which is kinda significant. Anderson also has the higher PDO (basically luckier) by 0.05 (0.985-0.935) which is a pretty sizeable margin. Anderson has a -0.27 CF% rel, -4.29 GF% rel, and 1.26 xGF% rel, White has 6.48, -5.52, and 5.35 (basically meaning Anderson is dead average among Habs regulars in terms of impact, while White is one of the better Senators in terms of projected impact, but has had some bad luck with on-ice shooting/save percentage). Like, if anything White has the slight edge in numbers, is more versatile (can play C or RW), is better defensively, and he's also younger, less expensive, and signed for less (because realistically both guys are overpaid 3rd liners, in which case I'd look at the younger player, the one that plays centre, the one that is better defensively, the one that is less expensive, the one with less term on the bad deal, all of which is White lol). I wouldn't trade White for Anderson 1 for 1. Saying that Ottawa needs to not only add, but add a top 7 pick AND a good prospect who is probably gonna be a top 4 RD within 2 years, is one of the worst takes I've seen in a long time.
