Think TOR has a better chance of buying out Mrázek, don't think many teams will line up to pay 3.8M for a backup.
I don't think Campbell signs for under 4-4.5M If he's signing as a starter.
Highly doubt all 3 of your RFAs take that little, they have all be pretty solid for TOR and all having their best years so far, don't think any of them are signing for under 2.5M.

At least its different and some realistic trade values, but it all falls apart when you look at the UFA signings.

The RFA signings collectively at 4.6mil is probably right, but engvall will not make less than this year.

Just cant see giordano signing for that little, even at 3.5mil hes worth it. This is Lyubushkin's and Campbells big payday, Lyub wont sign for just 200k more for 3 yrs and Campbell will get more than 3.5. Blackwell too will want a raise, not a reduction. And any one of those puts you over the cap.

But more importantly, is this the cup defending squad? Because if it isn;t theres no reason to basically bring back the entire 21-22 team and expect different results

I doubt SJS would be wasting a retention spot on a league minimum contract, at the start of the year, no less

Don’t think you get more than a 4th for Holl.

Just for future reference, Washington wouldn’t be a fit for Holl’s services when Schultz leaves as Van Riemsdyk will likely shift back to the right side and Alexeyev or Johansen will likely fill the 3LD hole.

Agree with you. I've been "hammered" for suggesting a Nylander trade, without getting cap back as an alternative move. That way they can keep their RFAs, and Campbell. Sure you get weakened on RW, but maintain strength/depth at other positions.
I don't understand why so many think other Leafs will just roll over and take lousy contracts just to maintain the "core four"
Well at least the author of this post, didn't have NTC Muzzin accepting a trade to non playoff team.

It's more about how Dubas prioritizes his spending. The core is and always will be what makes or breaks the team. No collection of middle 6 depth guys is going to win you the cup. If that was the case Tampa wouldn't be a contender still. They lost their entire 3rd line that half the fools on here say is the reason they won the cup and yet they are still right up there among the best. Cap space means nothing if you waste it on overpriced depth. Just look around the league. Hyman was lost because we kept the core. Did it hurt us? Absolutely not. Has Sandin proven he's a top 4 Defenceman who is durable enough to be worth a big contract? Not yet. Has Liljegren shown that he can handle anything more than offensive zone starts and sheltered minutes? Not yet, in fact he's looked downright bad against tougher competition when paired with Rielly and Muzzin. Campbell is still pretty unproven as well. Nylander certainly is proven and is a force. Moving him for cap space creates way bigger holes than it fills.

Engvall gets more I bet but Sandin and Liljegren should be bridge deals 2 years for both around 1.5 million is a reasonable and fair deal. Anything more and it's underserved

While Nylander is the most "moveable", hes also the cheapest and probably brings the least return (bar Tavares and his NMC).

Too many Leaf proposals are about maintaining the almost exact squad they have now and cutting corners to fit in a 20 skater lineup. To me, if the Leafs dont go beyond the second round this year, then real change is needed, and that change is all about fixing the cap structure with 3 forwards eating 33mil.

Im not saying you blow up the team, but theres no youngsters coming up and a ton of lge minimum stopgap bandaids like kase, clifford and simmonds cant be the answer for team depth.

Muzzin is done and Mrazek was a big Dubas mistake, but how much does it take to drop them, they have little value. Nylander makes 7mil and has good trade value, but can you replace his production and have cap space to fix other things with that 7mil? Probably not. I'm not jumping on the trade marner wagon, but realistically you could bring on 2, maybe 3 quality players for his cap hit, I'm not sure yiou can say the same about Nylander.

Theres so much cap at the top end, that TOR has only 5 players making between 2.1 and 6.8 mil, just 5. Thats alot of lge minimum/non-rookies filling gaps and it makes it difficult to upgrade. (again think about how many trade Kerfoot, Holl and Mrazek posts and those are your midlevel salaries). Midlevel salaries like Kapanen, Johnson, mccann, hyman, brown are easy to move, but the Leafs are running out of moveable players/commodities, and right now 3 of those midlevel salaries (Muzzin, Mrazek and Holl) have little value in trade.

Some fans expect a nylander for a nylander or a marner for a marner in trade, and it doesn;t work like that. But if you could get a Koneckny and a prospect/pick/s for Nylander and have 1.5mil free it helps to build a TEAM. (Or, and this is a quick example, so dont lose it,: trade Marner for say Faksa, Gurianov, Hakanpaa and a 1st rounder). Suffice to say if the Leafs cant win with this suffocating cap structure, then change is needed.

Icing the same team with the same inabilities does nothing but just help pass the years until Matthews, Marner, Nylander are UFAs, (and they wont take pay cuts and I doubt the cap jumps enough in the next 2-3 yrs to cover their increases)
