Ottawa won't take Binnington. He has too much term. With his inconsistent play, it would be too risky. Binnington isn't likely to waive for Ottawa, who are often named as one of the least desirable landing spots for players.
I don't even think Ottawa would swap Matt Murray for Binnington, but that would be the only reasonable starting point. Maybe Murray+White for Binnington, with the understanding that St.Louis is going to buyout white at 875k for the next six seasons. Since Binnington has 5 seasons left of term, it would be a way for St.Louis to retain on Binnington without burning a retention spot. Additionally, Ottawa could re-sign Colin White at a lower ticket. Although, he probably goes to Montreal where his former agent is now GM. Montreal tried to acquire White at the trade deadline.
Matt Murray has 2 years left at 6.25 million. Colin White's buyout would be 6 years at 875k for a total of 17.75 million in cap. Binnington is owed 30 million in cap. Unless the Senators are super high on Binnington, I just don't see it making any sense, even with Murray and White going the other way. I am assuming that with new ownership the Senators will make a commitment to winning and spending to the cap.
